Today we’d like to introduce you to Dawnette Palmore.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Absolutely. I grew up in a single-parent, lower-class household where managing money wasn’t something we talked about—I never had guidance in that area. When I met my husband in 1996 and we started our family in 1998, I made the decision to stay home with our kids. I homeschooled them and managed the accounting for our successful appraisal company. But despite earning more, we didn’t have a financial plan. Our spending grew with our income, and we weren’t saving or preparing for retirement. Eventually, I realized something had to change.
In 2014, I came across some systems and processes that really resonated with me. We started living on a plan, saving money, and paying off debt—even during tough times when our business revenues were declining. That transformation changed everything. It not only reshaped our finances but also taught our kids important lessons about living within or below their means, saving, and paying cash when possible.
That journey inspired me to help others. In 2015, I became a financial coach and launched Proverbs Financial Coaching, which I later rebranded as Your Money On Purpose Coaching. Today, I empower women—especially those with variable incomes like mine—to take control of their money, overcome financial stress, and create a life of freedom.
In addition to coaching, my husband and I run two other businesses: a catering business specializing in Texas-style BBQ and an Airbnb. Balancing these ventures has given me even greater insight into managing the challenges of entrepreneurship, which I use to help my clients. My mission is to show others that no matter where you start, you can break generational chains, rewrite your financial story, and create a future full of possibilities.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Oh, there were quite a few challenges, but each one taught me something valuable. Early in my marriage, my husband and I ran a successful appraisal business, but we didn’t have a financial plan in place. As our income increased, so did our spending, which meant we missed out on opportunities to save or plan for retirement. It wasn’t until our business started facing declining revenues that we realized how vulnerable we were. That period created a financial strain on our family, forcing us to buckle down with creating a spending plan, planning, and discipline just to stay afloat.
Breaking free from generational cycles of financial instability and limited mindsets was another deeply personal challenge for me. I grew up in an environment where financial education wasn’t a priority, and breaking those chains required courage and persistence. I wanted to show my kids—and myself—that we could rewrite our story and create a better future.
Then you have the challenges of variable income. With income from multiple businesses—our appraisal business, a catering company, and an Airbnb—cash flow is always unpredictable. But it taught me a lot about managing uncertainty and staying resilient. Balancing these ventures with my coaching business also required a lot of organization and time management. I’ve had to learn how to juggle priorities while still making time for my family and self-care.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Your Money On Purpose Coaching?

What I want readers to know is that financial freedom isn’t about how much money you make—it’s about how you manage it and the mindset you bring to it. What does success mean to you?
For me, success isn’t just about achieving a certain income or status—it’s about living a life of purpose and alignment. Success is when I’m able to use my experiences, knowledge, and skills to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others, especially by helping women gain control of their finances and find freedom from financial stress.
It’s also about balance. Success means thriving in my businesses while still making time for my family, self-care, and personal passions. It’s about building businesses that not only provide financial stability but also reflect my values of service, perseverance, and growth.
Ultimately, success is defined by the legacy I leave behind—breaking generational chains, creating opportunities for others, and showing my kids and clients that with the right mindset and tools, they can achieve anything they set their minds to. For me, it’s about the lives I touch and the transformations I help bring about, not just in their finances but in how they see themselves and their potential.
