Exploring Life & Business with Danielle Benson of H.e.r.Doula

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Benson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a plus-size model who’s a hard-working single mom who believes she can do it all. I became a certified Fertility and Birth Doula. I developed my own nonprofit organization called H.e.r Doula it’s a nonprofit that’s for Women’s reproductive health. I want women of color to feel safe having a baby again. It’s sad that our black women are dying at a two hundred percent rate. I also power lift and soon, I’ll be competing competitively. I’m also in medical management full-time as well.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of the roadblocks is actually starting then after you start the funding is the hardest. I want to do so much more.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
What sets my nonprofit organization apart is that it’s for every woman or any human who Identifies as female. It’s a safe space for any and all couples.

I’m the CEO and I’m a certified fertility and birth doula internationally as well.

We believe every expectant mother and her child MUST receive exceptional healthcare before, during and after pregnancy regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic class or national origin – whether insured, underinsured or uninsured. We believe all women MUST be treated with respect, empathy, compassion and utmost consideration before, during and after pregnancy. We believe all women MUST receive exceptional care and support spiritually, psychologically, emotionally, physically, academically, professionally and socially prenatal, during every phase of gestation and postpartum which includes benefits for mental AND holistic healthcare.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The best thing about Orange County is how beautiful it is and somewhat diverse. The least thing I like is that we don’t have enough black or brown women getting enough health care during birth
