Exploring Life & Business with Daniel & Carina Velasquez of UrBin Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel & Carina Velasquez

Hi Daniel & Carina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Daniel Velasquez and I’ve been a police officer for 16 years in Southern California. I’m married to my wife, Carina, and have two children, Emilia (6) and Elijah (4). One day our kids were playing near the trash bins in the backyard and I told them to get away from there. In typical toddler fashion, our son asked “why???” And of course, “because I said so” is never a good enough answer, I began to research why exactly our dirty bins are harmful to us and our environment. That research led my wife and I to realize how much harmful bacteria is harbored in and around our trash bins (which we touch daily when taking out the trash) and cleaning our trash bins on our lawn is not a safe practice. After digging deeper into the topic, we saw a need in our local community for trash bin cleaning services so we decided to start our own business, UrBin Services LLC. We found a company in Michigan that outfits trailers to wash trash bins and recycle the dirty water so we do not have to dump any waste water. As the business turned from just an idea into a reality, the vision of what we thought our business would be has grown and evolved. With the state-of-the-art trailer we had outfitted, we realized we were able to expand our services to include Pressure Washing, Window Cleaning and Solar Panel Cleaning to create a “one stop shop” for residential and commercial property owners.

We incorporated our business in September of 2023, but due to all the necessary equipment needed to get the business off the ground we weren’t fully operational until April 2024. Since April, we have become increasingly busy with more customers utilizing a variety of our services and have received positive feedback overall. We look forward to what the future holds for UrBin Services.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a business has indeed come with its share of challenges and learning experiences. While it hasn’t always been completely smooth, the overall experience has been quite positive. Transitioning from being an employee to a business owner has been the most significant challenge, but also one of the most rewarding aspects of this journey.

Building the business from the ground up has been a substantial life adjustment, but it’s been incredibly exciting and fulfilling. Each lesson learned has contributed to our growth and success, and we remain enthusiastic about the future.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about UrBin Services?
At UrBin Services we offer Residential and Commercial trash bin cleaning, pressure washing, solar panel & window cleaning. We have a trailer that has been outfitted with hot water (200 degrees) and high pressure to clean and sanitize trash bins. The dirty water is captured in a tank called the “hopper” which is then transferred through a 17-stage filtration system, cleaning and recycling the water. Our system is also EPA approved and we never have to dump our dirty waste water; contributing to a greener environment. With this system we are also able to offer pressure washing using our own water source and also have a vacuum to assist with water recovery. Additional, for solar panel and window cleaning, we have a 4-stage RO/DI system that allows us to clean without chemicals, leaving them spot-free and increasing their efficiency. We are very proud of our ability to create cleaner and healthier environments for the community while implementing eco-friendly practices.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
We were not in business during Covid; however, the Covid-19 Crisis taught us the importance of living in a clean and healthy environment.
