Claudia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Searching for amazing but affordable original art to fill my home gave me the reason to open a gallery specializing in just that. It was impossible to find art galleries in Los Angeles that would exhibit a good selection of different styles, sizes, and a diverse roster of international artists. In 2010 I opened Artspace Warehouse to offer original art accessible to everyone. Key elements included making the gallery experience non-intimidating and having all prices publicly listed online and in the gallery.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Opening a business and attracting customers in an economy recovering from a recession was not an easy task. A prominent article in the LA Times and referrals from customers who loved the gallery were very helpful. It was challenging to choose the right team members to work in the gallery as this is one of the most important aspects of creating a happy and creative workspace. Establishing and maintaining good relationships with talented artists takes a lot of time but the results are worth it.
