Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandy Alvarado-Miranda.
Hi Brandy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My origin is a combo of strategic leaps, combined with a group of amazing mentors that molded me, lots of networking, and a love of creative storytelling through marketing. I began my Marketing career in 2001 for an insurance broker. I was blessed to start there with a boss that really believed in my skills and offered me opportunities to continuously educate myself and take classes to hone my skills. My boss became my biggest cheerleader, mentor, and my front row. Looking back now, I take a lot of the lessons she taught me and apply it to my own staff and business now. After working there for nearly 15 years, sadly they were acquired and installed their marketing team to take over.
I then took the leap into another industry quite by accident and have grown to love it. I can’t see myself anywhere else now. The audio-visual (AV) industry is now home, and it’s full of very interesting people. Some might call us nerds, but we’re the ones responsible for experiences like the Sphere in Las Vegas, and the Van Gogh traveling immersive art show. While these projects are quite notable, a lot of my clients work on smaller projects for Colleges, Corporate Enterprises, Retail, and other environments with digital signage as well as professional audio scapes.
When COVID hit, I had been working in a segment of the AV industry that primarily worked in themed entertainment venues – museums and theme parks. With the onset of COVID, that segment was shuttered fast, and I along with a number of people in the industry found myself laid off and searching in a volatile time for my next AV career move. I put my “Open to Work” notice up on LinkedIN, and within a short time, I started having some sizable freelance work writing blogs, creating content, social media, and some brand creatives/web designs. This freelance work became so much and so steady that after a time, my mentor suggested that I start a business. I took another leap and started the BAM! Marketing & PR Agency.
I created an agency fueled by creativity, technical prowess, and a fearless style of communication. From content to social media to PR, we’re your ultimate sidekick and marketing superheroes.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Ha! No, not at all! I never wanted to start my own business, I always thought I’d be working for a company. Starting a business is not for the faint of heart, and starting a business during COVID, was probably the biggest and craziest risk I’ve taken. Thankfully for my amazing network of connections, BAM grew rapidly by word of mouth referrals, and before I knew it, I had a dozen or so regular clients, as well as some that needed help on an as-needed basis.
Some of the struggles I faced are what most business owners would say – hiring the right people, retaining and attracting new clients, and staying current in the marketplace are all some of the typical growing pains I’ve experienced.
