Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashton Elv
Hi Ashton, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hi! My name is Ashton, and I’m 24 years old from Downingtown, Pennsylvania. I graduated with a business degree, but it wasn’t until 2022 that I really found my career path. I went through a lot of trial and error, learning what I liked and what I didn’t. I had over ten business ideas before discovering the ones that felt right for me. I think your early 20s are super important for you to get to know yourself and figure out who you are. I always loved music so I decided to get into the path of the music industry. I began working remotely at an independent music label in 2022 as a producer manager and A&R. This job brought me a lot of dope opportunities so at 23, I moved to Los Angeles to keep the momentum going. It’s almost been 2 years and I’ve found myself falling in love with fashion and design in the process. I’ve always wanted to start my own brand but as a perfectionist, I wasn’t inclined to do it until I found what fashion felt and looked like to me. The style and expressiveness in la and through social media is what pushed me to step into that world.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest obstacle I faced was just getting over the fear of “what if” and turning it into “even if.” I came to la and basically forced myself to step out of my comfort zone and it ultimately has brought me closer to my purpose and truest self. It’s very easy to get discouraged and wrapped up in comparison to others’ success. Having a relationship with God has been the ultimate source to staying motivated and to trust timing and the process.
I think it’s good to face challenges so you can learn from them and it can bring you that much closer to what you are looking for. I took all the skills I was good at and applied them. I also decided to invest in a mentor and an e-commerce course (s/o @Justinp). I think investing in yourself and your dreams is the greatest purchase you can make because we all have to start somewhere and for me, it really taught me a lot.
We’ve been impressed with Luxury by Ashton , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My work consists of being a full time entrepreneur. I’ve decided to take a small break from music to focus on fashion. The amazing thing about the two is they go hand and hand so it creates for a ton of amazing opportunities which i’m thankful to have. I started Luxury by Ashton in April 2024 and I’ve already been able to shoot a campaign, get organic orders and collab with some of my favorite stylists, models and artists (and more to come!)
What’s so cool about LA is I can go to a music industry party and gift some of my favorite artists a bag or some jewelry. Being at the right place at the right time is crucial and I thank God for always placing me where I belong.
I spend a lot of my days doing one of the two. I’m either looking at my brand from a business standpoint where I’m creating and studying content, analytics, trends and building the marketing side of having a business or I am physically working with the yarn, crocheting, designing, painting, and adding sauce to my designs.
My brand is for everyone. I make bags for the fashion and streetwear lovers. I make bags for brides and bridesmaids, special occasions, anniversaries and more. If someone has a vision, I can execute it for them. The brand is constantly evolving so what is happening now is going to be different in a year from now. I want this label to be bigger than just a brand. I want to create a community of dope streetwear fashion mixed with luxury and simplicity. I hope to add clothing and other pieces into the brand. I’m also looking forward to supporting local churches and helping our community as we are a christian based brand.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I believe luck is self fulfilling, closely tied to having faith in God. When you put in the effort and believe in something, there’s no direction for it to go but up. Surround yourself with people, places, and things that inspire you, and trust yourself in the process. It’s perfectly okay to start over or rebuild as many times as you need. Approach everything with love and a sense of purpose.
Luck also goes hand in hand with hard work. I shot my shot at so many opportunities and I learned that the worst thing that can happen is you don’t get it. If you do nothing, you won’t see any results. The more effort you put into achieving something, the higher your chances are of getting lucky and an opportunity comes out of it. So many people are filled with fear. It WILL hold you back if you let it.
I also believe that if you find yourself trying too hard and facing constant setbacks, it might be a sign that it just may not be for you. if it is meant for you, then you will absolutely know.
