Hi Ashley, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My journey as a beauty expert spanning over 20 years is a tale of humble beginnings, unwavering passion, and constant evolution. It all started back in 2003 when I ventured into the world of freelance makeup artistry, finding my footing in local theaters and public access television. Balancing college life, I found solace and a paycheck at a bustling beauty counter, where my fascination with skincare and holistic wellness blossomed. 

The discovery of eyelash extensions in 2004 sparked my creativity, and by 2006/2007, I proudly earned my license as an Aesthetician. Along the way, I delved deeper into Ayurvedic practices, weaving ancient wisdom into modern beauty rituals. 

Today, armed with the mantle of a certified Ayurvedic Practitioner, I have seamlessly integrated my expansive skill set and knowledge base into my beauty practice. Transitioning away from conventional makeup applications and hairstyling, I’ve redirected my focus towards red-carpet events and esteemed clientele, carving a niche defined by exclusivity and excellence. 

As the years unfolded, I realized my true calling lay not just in makeup and hair styling but in nurturing holistic beauty from within. While red-carpet events and high-profile clients became part of my journey, it’s the relationships forged with an incredible circle of clients—some of whom have been with me since the beginning—that truly illuminate my path. 

In 2023, I took a leap of faith and launched a virtual wellness collective, carving out a space that celebrates diversity and inclusivity in beauty and wellness. Currently serving the vibrant communities of LA and OC, our vision extends nationwide, aiming to create a sanctuary for all who seek to embrace their unique beauty. 

Reflecting on my story, I’m reminded that every step of the way has been guided by a passion for connection and transformation. It’s not just about the accolades or milestones; it’s about the shared experiences, the laughter, and the tears that have shaped my journey. And as I continue to evolve, I remain grounded in the belief that beauty is not just skin deep—it’s about empowering individuals to embrace their authenticity and radiate from within. 

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Navigating the entrepreneurial landscape has been a journey marked by both triumphs and trials. Initially, the path seemed straightforward, and for a considerable stretch, it was smooth sailing. However, life as a freelancer and entrepreneur has unfolded its share of challenges, particularly in recent years, prompting us to adapt and pivot. 

Over the past 7-10 years, a significant portion of my clientele has stemmed from the dynamic realm of entertainment. Yet, the ever-changing nature of this industry compelled me to reassess my approach and business strategy. In response, I forged a collaborative partnership with Brandi Andrews, a trusted friend and licensed skin therapist. Together, we envisioned and brought to life the Anya de Luna Academy—an advanced program and academy tailored for beauty professionals of color. 

Our collective mission at Anya de Luna Academy transcends mere education; it’s about dismantling barriers and fostering inclusivity within the beauty industry. By equipping both aspiring and seasoned aestheticians and cosmetologists with cutting-edge techniques and knowledge, we empower them to thrive in an ever-evolving landscape. Our aim is clear: to provide invaluable resources and mentorship, enabling individuals to secure coveted positions and cultivate enduring client relationships. 

While the road may have presented its share of obstacles, each challenge has served as a catalyst for growth and innovation. Through resilience and collaboration, we continue to navigate the intricacies of entrepreneurship, steadfast in our commitment to empower and uplift beauty professionals across diverse communities. 

This journey has affirmed that while the path may not always be smooth, it is rife with opportunities for transformation and impact.

As a multifaceted business owner, I embrace the roles of creator, professional, and visionary, relishing the autonomy that accompanies the journey. At the heart of my endeavors lies Asusu Anya Aesthetics & Wellness Collective, a dream nurtured over several years. The name, a testament to my Nigerian roots, was gifted to me in a dream where the phrase “Asusu Anya” resonated—a profound symbol of “language of the eyes” or “a knowing beyond sight.” 

Within this collective, I aspire to cultivate a virtual wellness sanctuary, uniting diverse talents to guide individuals along their holistic health and beauty paths. Our roster of carefully curated professionals stands poised to accompany you on your transformative journey, fostering inclusivity and compassion within our virtual space. 

As a BIPOC & LGBTQ+ owned practice, we champion the ethos of collective support, recognizing that unity fuels our shared success. Anchored by the wisdom of “many hands make light work” and “a rising tide lifts all boats,” we embrace collaboration as the cornerstone of our collective mission. 

In my capacity as a practitioner, I extend a range of virtual Ayurvedic wellness consultations and treatments, collaborating with esteemed estheticians, trichologists, and cosmetologists to address complex beauty challenges. Moreover, our commitment extends to offering realistic, lifelike eyelash extensions, prioritizing the health of natural lashes and eye anatomy above all.

Delving into what brings me happiness, it’s the unquenchable thirst for curiosity that truly ignites my spirit. There’s an undeniable joy in exploring the mysteries of life, whether it’s marveling at the innocent wonder of babies, the boundless enthusiasm of dogs and puppies, or the awe-inspiring beauty of nature’s tapestry. 

For me, happiness thrives when I’m exercising my curiosity, unraveling the layers of existence, and embracing the infinite possibilities that lie within. There’s an inherent joy in delving into the depths of my soul, uncovering hidden truths, and embarking on a journey of self-discovery. 

Moreover, happiness blossoms in the connections forged along the way—the opportunity to make new friends who share in the pursuit of knowledge and exploration. Building a community where curiosity is celebrated and nurtured becomes a beacon of light in the quest for collective understanding and growth. 

And amidst the adventures of exploration, my happiness finds its sanctuary at home with my fiancé and our dog Coco. The warmth of companionship and the simple joys of everyday life create a haven where laughter and love abound, enriching each moment with meaning and fulfillment.
