Exploring Life & Business with Alisha Joshi of Gain Physical Therapy & Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alisha Joshi.

Hi Alisha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My professional life has been defined by a commitment to patient-centered care and a relentless pursuit of clinical excellence. My path began with a deep-rooted inspiration: growing up in India, I watched many family members—from cardiologists to internists—dedicate their lives to medicine. This instilled in me an early desire to be in healthcare, but my compassion for individualized healing and movement specifically drew me to Physical Therapy.

I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy in India, which set the stage for my international career. When I married my amazing husband; I moved to the United States and attended New York University, where I completed my Doctoral Degree in Physical Therapy (DPT). For the past 13 years as a licensed practitioner, I have continuously refined my skills, developing a strong niche in chronic pain management, post-operative rehabilitation, and sports injuries. My clinical approach firmly relies on hands-on manual therapy combined with evidence-based exercise programs to ensure quality care and exceptional, lasting results.
I firmly believe that all patients deserve to have meaningful time with their providers. Physical Therapists have a unique and vital ability to connect with their patients by dedicating time to truly listen to their goals. Every human body moves differently, and I am committed to providing individualized care that is precisely catered to a patient’s unique movement patterns and personal objectives. I feel incredibly fortunate to provide healing through manual therapy and customized exercise.
The ultimate test of my commitment came when I decided to launch my own private practice. This transition was a natural extension of my clinical philosophy; I wanted to create a space where personalized care was the absolute standard, not the exception. The journey to opening my own doors required taking on roles far beyond that of a clinician—I became the strategist, the finance manager, and the marketing lead, all while maintaining my focus as the Lead Therapist. This entrepreneurial step, supported by an amazing family, proved that I could successfully balance high-level leadership, clinical mastery, and personal life, ultimately leading me to where I am today: the proud owner of a practice committed to empowering patient health and movement.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I can recall the exact day I achieved my professional licensure after clearing the National exam. It was an unforgettable moment, marked by a rare sporting event—the Giants beating the Patriots—which, in hindsight, felt like an omen for a career full of unexpected victories and challenges. From that day on, my professional north star was clear: to mold myself into a master clinician who could find joy and purpose in every shift, regardless of the patient load or operational demands.
Every day in practice presented a new hurdle, which I viewed as an opportunity. My early growth was exponentially fueled by exceptional mentors and a dedication to continuing education. This created a solid foundation for clinical expertise. The true test of my leadership and resilience came when I was managing a bigger team at outpatient clinic while simultaneously welcoming the two most beautiful blessings into my life: my children.

Many assumed that balancing a demanding team leadership role with motherhood would necessitate hitting the brakes. Instead, with the unwavering partnership of my husband, it became an intense period of accelerated growth. We didn’t just manage; we succeeded, proving that focused leadership and personal priorities can, in fact, coexist and thrive.

Now, I’ve reached a point where I realized I needed to architect something entirely my own—a practice built on my vision of patient care and operational excellence. Opening my own clinic was the logical next step.
I no longer wear just one hat; I am the Chief Executive, the Lead Clinician, the Marketing Strategist, the Financial Officer, and the Billing Manager—all rolled into one. If that’s not the ultimate professional challenge, I don’t know what is! It’s an invigorating journey that requires the same tenacity and willingness to learn that defined my early clinical years.

As you know, we’re big fans of Gain Physical Therapy & Wellness . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Gain Physical Therapy & Wellness, we are a small, family-owned practice located in Irvine, California. What truly sets us apart is our unwavering commitment to one-on-one care. In an era where many clinics prioritize volume, we prioritize the individual. We are founded on the belief that patients deserve ample time with their provider. Every human body moves differently, and we dedicate time to truly listen to goals, assess unique movement patterns, and deliver individualized treatment. This personalized attention is the cornerstone of our brand.
We specialize in orthopedic physical therapy, particularly in treating complex cases such as chronic pain, post-operative rehabilitation, and sports injuries. Our distinction lies in the caliber of our treatment:

Hands-On Expertise and Evidence based treatments: I am a Certified Manual Physical Therapist. This advanced training means we utilize highly effective, hands-on techniques—including joint mobilization, soft tissue manipulation, cupping therapy, and IASTM—to ensure faster, more complete healing and long-term dysfunction relief. We blend these hands-on methods with customized, evidence-based exercise programs to achieve exceptional and lasting results.

Brand-wise, I am most proud of the trust and healing environment we have created. The professionalism, individualized approach, and patient-centered focus of our state-of-the-art facility ensure that when patients walk in, they feel valued and optimistic about their recovery. Our core philosophy—that every patient deserves the opportunity to spend focused, quality time with their therapist—is not just a slogan; it’s our business model. We are not just treating an injury; we are restoring movement, reducing pain, and empowering our patients to reclaim their active lives.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
When considering the role of “luck” in my life and business, I attribute only a minimal role to random chance. I firmly believe that success is primarily a function of discipline, a commitment to learning, and a non-negotiable professional philosophy. I tend to keep my head down and focus my intentions on growth—in my clinical expertise, my business acumen, and my personal life.

I am incredibly fortunate to have an incredible family by my side. Their support is the essential foundation that allows me to sustain this level of focus and drive across all these demanding aspects of my life.

With my business at Gain Physical Therapy & Wellness we don’t wait for ‘lucky’ patient referrals at Gain Physical Therapy & Wellness; instead, we concentrate on delivering an exceptional, individualized, and respectful approach to care. This ensures that our patients become our greatest advocates, making patient advocacy our most reliable form of growth. We believe that preparation is what creates our own luck.
