Every pour is a show: cane stalks crushed in front of our customers, the sound and sight of juicing sparking curiosity and drawing a crowd. The result is a drink that is naturally sweet, packed with electrolytes, minerals, and guilt-free sugars – refreshing enough to be called a natural Gatorade. Whether it’s a hot day at the market, a family festival, or a special celebration, our sugarcane juice re-energizes and brings people together. The roots of Coastal Cane run deep. Sugarcane juice is a staple across the globe — from Egypt to Vietnam, India, Brazil, and beyond. For co-founder Yousuf, it was a childhood tradition he enjoyed every summer in Egypt, where sugarcane juice shops lined nearly every street. Years later, when Yousuf introduced sugarcane juice to Ahmed, it was natural for him to fall in love with it. Having grown up in a Palestinian family and spending part of his childhood in Lebanon surrounded by farms, fruits, and fresh flavors, Ahmed’s deep appreciation for natural foods made sugarcane an instant passion. Together, their shared nostalgia and entrepreneurial drive brought Coastal Cane to life. Launched in June 2021 during the pandemic, Coastal Cane quickly became a favorite at festivals and events across Southern California. Customers often tell us our drinks spark memories of home, childhood, and family. The brand has grown from a booth experience into a thriving business with a mission: to introduce sugarcane juice to the American palate the way coconut water and boba once did. We’re passionate about educating people on sugarcane’s history, health benefits, and refreshing versatility. Every glass we serve is an invitation: not just to enjoy a drink, but to connect with a tradition shared by cultures all over the world.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Building Coastal Cane from the ground up came with its share of growing pains — from navigating city permits and health department regulations to dealing with unpredictable sugarcane supply and staffing challenges. There were days when machines broke down during rush hour, or when I’d personally drive across counties to secure fresh cane for the next morning’s service. But every challenge taught me something valuable about leadership, systems, and the importance of adaptability. Those early struggles helped shape the brand’s culture of resourcefulness and teamwork that defines us today.
