Exploring Life & Business with Cameron Knox of Knox Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Knox.

Hi Cameron, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had a passion for fashion, and as I got older I wanted to explore the industry more. In 2018, I got blessed with the opportunity to work for Kyle Kuzma, of the Los Angeles Lakers, and his clothing line. Working for him inspired me to start my own clothing brand and led me to my passion for fashion. That experience taught me many things, as well as inspired me in many ways. I was able to see how the industry works, and I met many influential people. Seeing the way Kyle worked hard towards the things that he wanted to achieve really motivated me to be the same way. He really put that fire in me to go above and beyond, as well as remind me to never give up at any cost. What I learned and experienced inspired me throughout the process of opening my business.

This year, I was laid off from my job because of the pandemic. This was a tough time for me, like everyone else, and things eventually got so bad that I could barely pay my bills. Despite my situation at that moment, my faith and trust in God really pushed me into starting my own business. As a Christian, I believe that you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you and that God is the provider of all. So when I received my stimulus check, instead of wasting it, I decided to save it and use it for something special. That something special was the start and opening of Knox Boutique.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s definitely been a struggle. Starting your own brand is not the easiest thing to do, as well as being unemployed with no source of income coming in. Being let go from my previous job really messes with you mentally. I would have sleepless nights, thinking about how I was gonna pay my bill, as well as nights where I could barely eat. However, I took all this happening to me, that happens to me, as a sign from God to work hard and pursue my dreams. You will definitely have ups and downs, long nights and days. You’ll have times where you’ll wanna give up, but you have to push through and know what the bigger picture is. My biggest piece of advice is to continue to work hard, trust in God, and know that if one door closes, God will definitely open another one for you.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Knox Boutique is a Christian clothing line that started just recently in 2020. We have clothing for both men and women, and our style is centered around upscale casual. The vision for this boutique really came to me two years ago, in 2018. I saw the vision and decided to run with it when I got the chance. I’m such a firm believer that God will lead you to your purpose when the time is right. We’re known for our unique designs, as well as making faith our main focus. My faith is such a big part of my life, and I love that I get to share that. I’m also very proud to say that 20% of all proceeds are given back to the less fortunate.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Having a mentor through this process was beneficial in so many ways. I personally have a few mentors right now that I look up to, and I know that I can count on them to never stir me in the wrong direction. Having them in my corner has really helped me along the way, as well as helped me progress my business. I’m so thankful for them everyday, and they’re another reason why I’ve never allowed giving up to be an option. There’s a quote that I go by that says, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with”. That quote has always stood out to me because every time I am around them, they motivate me to do better and be better. If your circle doesn’t motivate you to do better and to continue to grow each and everyday, then you have to upgrade your circle. Your circle are the ones giving you advice, influencing your decisions, influencing your behavior, and even the ones who will hold you accountable to your goals.
