Today we’d like to introduce you to Ysabelle Gale
Hi Ysabelle Gale, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hello, my name is Ysabelle Gale! First, I want to thank Voyage LA Magazine for reaching out and allowing me to share my story. I’m originally from the Philippines and moved to California when I was around 8 years old. From what I can remember, I’ve always been an artsy kid growing up. I’ve always enjoyed painting, dancing, and anything creative. When I was around 6 or 7 years old, I remember seeing my mom applying her press powder and lipstick before going to work, so I naturally wanted to do the same thing as a child. To avoid damaging my baby skin, my parents found a compact baby powder on the market, and that’s what I would use on my face as “makeup.” I actually continued to buy and use this compact baby powder until I was 16 years old, which is when I was introduced to Korean beauty. My parents were firm about not allowing me to wear a lot of makeup on a daily basis, permitting it only on special occasions. They consistently told me that it’s not good for my skin in the long run and that it’s best to start taking care of my skin while I’m still young.
Fast forward to today, I’m currently a Makeup Artist and an Esthetician student. I’m about to reach my 9th year of being a makeup artist, and at the beginning of this year, I decided to take a leap of faith and pursue becoming a Licensed Esthetician as well. I’ve always enjoyed the process of enhancing someone’s beauty through makeup, and now, I’m also enjoying learning about skin health, which I think is very important since that is a Makeup Artist’s canvas.
When I’m not occupied with makeup or esthetician activities, I’m grateful to say that I still enjoy dancing, painting, digital creating, and other artsy activities as my beloved hobbies.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wish I could say that the road to where I am now has been smooth, but that’s not the case. Like everyone else, the journey of turning something you love into your work comes with its own set of challenges. Whether it’s facing periods of low sales, battling self-doubt, or navigating the ups and downs of the industry, the path is rarely easy. However, these struggles have shaped who I am today and have made every success even more rewarding.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m currently a professional makeup artist specializing in weddings, photoshoots, and special events. I also offer 1-on-1 sessions for individuals who want to learn how to apply makeup on themselves. Although it’s not my profession, I would love to experience working on set since I haven’t been in that environment before as a makeup artist. I’m approaching my 9th year as a makeup artist, and earlier this year, I decided to take a leap of faith and pursue licensure as an esthetician as well. I’ve always loved the art of enhancing beauty through makeup, and now I’m equally passionate about learning skin health, which I believe is crucial since it’s the canvas for any makeup artist.
What sets me apart as a makeup artist is my holistic approach to beauty. I believe that makeup should not only enhance someone’s features but also respect and work in harmony with their skin. My background in esthetics gives me a deeper understanding of skin health. I’m committed to continuous learning and staying ahead of trends, but I also focus on tailoring each look to the individual, ensuring that my clients feel confident and uniquely themselves. This blend of artistry, technical skill, and personalized care is what truly differentiates me.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Too many favorites and I can’t just choose one!
