Today we’d like to introduce you to Yesenia Rodriguez.
Hi Yesenia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started making hair bows for my then five-year-old. Her friends then started asking for bows, and 13 years later, that little girl no longer wears hairbows; she is now a student at UC Santa Barbara. Since then, my crafting has evolved into paper crafting, cup personalization, and yes I still make hairbows.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Covid made everyone rethink their business. During this time, we focused more on personalized items. Birthday parades were so popular, and with that, we were able to focus on creating one-of-a-kind party decor. Personalized cups were also popular as people wanted to give one-of-a-kind gifts.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I can craft it all! From holiday ornaments, and graduation leis to what I’m known for; hair accessories and cups and tumblers. What brings me joy is being a part of a celebration even though I’m not physically there. It is an honor to be a part of someone’s special day.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I have turned my creative outlet into a business I am proud of. I appreciate and am thankful for every sale and every supporter. Huge shout out to the Mariah, Isabella, and the Uptown flea, who have helped me take this little hustle of mine to a new level. They came at a time ( post-Covid) when the community needed reassurance that it was okay to go out and have fun. I have been a vendor with them since day one. They have grown so much. I look forward to continuing to grow with them.
