Daily Inspiration: Meet Victoria Vidrio-jacome

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Vidrio-jacome

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi! My name is Victoria Vidrio-Jacome. I am a first-generation college student from San Diego. My journey within Fraternity and Sorority Life began in my freshman year at California State University, Long Beach. I convinced my roommate, Claudia, to sign up for Panhellenic Formal Recruitment with me so we could meet new people and be a part of something fun while in college. In high school, I never thought about joining a sorority. As cliché as it may sound, I didn’t believe I had the personality for it. Joining Tri Delta changed my perspective on sororities and the meaning of sisterhood. I started getting involved in leadership opportunities relatively quickly; by my second semester of sophomore year, I was the youngest member on Tri Delta’s Executive Committee, serving as Vice President of Community Relations for two terms. As VPCR, I served as Tri Delta’s Panhellenic Delegate and oversaw all DEIAB efforts, social events, philanthropic initiatives, and Tri Delta’s PR and marketing. During my junior year, I became the Vice President of Academic Affairs for the Panhellenic Executive Council. Being on Panhellenic allowed me to serve my community on a larger scale and collaborate with brilliant women from different chapters. Shortly after becoming Vice President of Academic Affairs, I was elected as Tri Delta’s Collegiate Chapter President. From joining Tri Delta as a freshman to becoming Chapter President my senior year, I have seen the chapter grow and develop. Being trusted to lead a group of powerful, brave, and kind women is truly special. My leadership efforts within the Panhellenic and FSL communities have enriched my college experience and further shaped me into an independent, determined, and successful woman.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
College hasn’t been an easy journey, especially as a first-generation college student. Moving away from home at 17 was a big step, but I was determined to experience something new and build connections with different people. I knew this decision would come with sacrifices. Since starting college, I’ve balanced being a full-time student, staying active in Tri Delta and the Panhellenic Community, and working multiple jobs. Through all these responsibilities, I’ve faced periods of struggle, which have taught me the importance of time management and self-care for success. Looking back, I wouldn’t change my experiences or struggles. Every challenge I’ve faced as a first-generation Latina woman far from home has developed my resilience and shaped my success. I believe there’s beauty in the challenges. Life isn’t perfect, but it’s through struggles we grow and persevere.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a proud member of the Phi Kappa chapter of Tri Delta at California State University, Long Beach. Being a Tri Delta means living out the values of truth, self-sacrifice, and friendship. In this chapter, I’ve found lifelong friendships with women who share similar values and ambitions. Together, Tri Delta has allowed us to grow and support one another.

As Chapter President, I’ve had the privilege of watching our members grow, and I can honestly say every one of my sisters has impacted me in ways they may not even realize. My goal as President is to lead with kindness, pride, and selflessness. I strive to be a leader who reflects our values in everyday life, whether through holding multiple positions, encouraging others to pursue leadership opportunities in Panhellenic, or creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels supported.

Serving as Panhellenic Vice President of Academic Affairs has allowed me to work with amazing women from other chapters, promote academic success, and foster a sense of unity across the Panhellenic community. One of the most fulfilling highlights of my term was supporting our members in other aspects of their lives through opportunities such as facilitating the semesterly Panhellenic Scholarship.

In Spring 2024, our scholarship recipient expressed to me how meaningful it was for her to receive it. Its impact serves as a reminder of why I took on this role, to serve my community on a larger scale. Balancing the responsibilities of Panhellenic Vice President of Academic Affairs and Tri Delta Chapter President has been challenging, but also one of the most rewarding experiences of my college career. These roles have allowed me to grow as a leader while giving back to the communities that have shaped me.

Being Chapter President comes with its challenges, and there are moments when the pressure feels overwhelming. My experience with Tri Delta over the past four years has changed my life and strengthened my commitment to helping every member feel the same support and sisterhood I have. This chapter has shaped my college experience in many ways, and I hope to do the same for others.

What sets Tri Delta apart is our dedication to our philanthropy, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. This past summer, I had the amazing opportunity to visit the St. Jude campus in Memphis, Tennessee. It was inspiring to see how our efforts help ensure that no family ever receives a bill for treatment, travel, housing, or food, so they can focus entirely on helping their child.

Tri Delta has made a huge impact in the fight against childhood cancer. This year, Tri Delta celebrated raising $100 million in just 25 years for St. Jude. This incredible achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of all our chapters, including the hard work of Phi Kappa through events like Delta Dodgeball, Dunk-A-Delta, Delta House of Pancakes (DHOP), and the annual St. Jude Walk in Los Angeles.

Making a difference alongside my best friends is something I’ll always hold close to my heart, and I’m so proud to be part of an organization that’s changing lives every day.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Tri Delta and its partners are deeply committed to our philanthropy, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. I’m always open to collaborating on events or initiatives that support this cause. Supporting Tri Delta’s philanthropic efforts can be done in various ways; whether through volunteering at one of our events, making donations, collaborating on fundraising efforts, or spreading awareness, there are countless ways we can come together to make a difference!
