Daily Inspiration: Meet Timothy Granada

Today we’d like to introduce you to Timothy Granada

Timothy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started to coach tennis professionally back in 2012, while I was a sophomore in high school. I was employed by the city to run city classes of all ages alongside my former coach and older brother. I continued to coach for the city until I was in college. In 2015-2016, I had the opportunity to coach high school team tennis for boys and girls. Unfortunately, I wanted to focus a bit more on finishing my degree so decided to seize my coaching career. It wasn’t until the pandemic, where I started coaching again. At that time, everybody was looking to get into new hobby’s, interests and sports. My girlfriend’s sister actually wanted to pick up tennis and she knew that I was a former tennis coach. When starting, she had a blast and even sparked my passion for coaching tennis again. She liked me, so much that she recommended me to her friends. Then those friends liked me as well and recommended me to their friends, until I had a mass clientele and eventually formed TennisBros.
I wanted to form TennisBros to help alleviate the stigma of tennis, “Tennis is a rich people’s sport, with a high skills ceiling”. I wanted to make Tennis Lessons less daunting, more grounded and affordable. Most importantly, have the same impact of fun as it did on me when I was learning tennis.
TennisBros is a family owned, me being the lead, while my two brothers help out when needed. It is both a coaching service and a clothing company mashed into one. And we hope to continue to serve our community for as long as we can.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As of now, everything has been a very smooth. However, if I were to pick a struggle, I would have to say, that I am still figuring out the social media algorithm. I personally, don’t use social media, so it is hard to consistently post “on brand” content for my business. Luckily, I have amazing students that see their progress on the tennis court and help shine light onto my business and help me grow through word of mouth.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Before I started TennisBros, I was an aspiring firefighter. I obtained my IFSAC firefighter 1 and 2 certifications through San Pasqual Reservation Firefighter Academy, was an active Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Surveying Los Angeles City and County and had just graduated California State University of Long beach in Health Science. Unfortunately, I was an active EMT during the pandemic and got burnt out, which took a toll on my mental and physical health.
Prior to that, I had worked multitudes of jobs: ranging from Disneyland Cast Member, behavioral interventionist, and dental assistant. With that in mind I wanted to pull all my experiences and skills into one singular job that I know I will love: which came out to be TennisBros.
I would probably say: is one of my crowning achievements because I get to do what I love to do everyday, connect with amazing people, and have the same impact as tennis did for me. Not to mention, I have built everything from the ground up, from the unique learning curriculum that I think optimizes students’ learning success to the designs that are displayed on our apparel.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
There are a ton of free resources that can be utilized on the internet to help drive peoples success. Some of the resources that I utilized when I was creating TennisBros were a plethora of youtube channels called; “LYFE Accounting”, “LYFE Marketing”, and “Elizabeth Potts Weinstein”. I also had some personal help from friends and family in understanding the ins and outs of being a sole proprietor and setting up an official business.
