Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Williams.
Hi Taylor, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey within the music space around 2018 when I decided to buy a midi board and start producing. I’d seen some of my roommates doing so and it looked cool. From there, I learned audio engineering, and then picked up DJing around 2021.
I had been part of a music collective at that time, and we were putting on underground rap shows; that’s what sparked my love for throwing music events. After the collective disbanded, I started DJing the OC Connect Hip Hop Show with a producer & DJ named Chef Keyz, and that’s where I really learned the process of putting on a quality show. Now, I throw a show each month called “Amplify Anaheim” where I get the opportunity to showcase SoCal talent. It’s been a really amazing journey so far.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve had a lot of failures. Taken a tremendous amount of L’s. I’ve lost money and put time and effort into things that didn’t perform as well as I’d wanted. But that’s all part of the process, especially in artistic endeavors. It’s ok to fail because you’re given the opportunity to learn from it, which is priceless. And the more you fail, and make mistakes, the better you get at what you do.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a multi-hyphenate in the music space. I do audio engineering, throw events, I DJ. I offer services in all of those areas. Right now I’m putting a lot of energy into a monthly show at The World Famous Doll Hut called “Amplify Anaheim.” I love curating great talent for people to be inspired and moved by, and it makes me proud to see great artists put their gifts into the world via my platform. You can get info about my next show if you follow @amplifyanaheim on instagram.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
As I mentioned before: failure is extremely important. I think the key to finding what you love in life, is finding something where you are motivated by your failures, instead of feeling defeated by them.
Another piece of advice I can offer is a quote from the movie Field of Dreams: “if you build it they will come.” There are people out there who will care about and gravitate to your ideas. Put it into the universe, put the work in, and your audience will come to you.
