Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebeca Victoria
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Nuvula’s story began in 2005, in the heart of New York City’s vibrant fashion scene. My sister, Vanessa, and I embarked on a shared creative journey, co-founding the brand with a vision to revolutionize the industry by creating wearable art through original prints and sustainable practices. At a time when contemporary brands rarely experimented with unique prints, Nuvula sought to make a bold statement, crafting garments that not only exuded style but also told a story, creating a dreamy allegory that resonated with consumers on a deeper level.
The early years were marked by a tireless pursuit of innovation, as our team, and I experimented with new materials, sustainable production methods, and captivating designs. Nuvula’s initial foray into the U.S. market through local trade shows led to rapid growth, with the brand quickly securing partnerships with boutiques across the country.
Seeking new horizons and inspired by the city’s vibrant arts scene, we relocated Nuvula to Los Angeles in 2008. We quickly immersed ourselves in the local fashion community, participating in Los Angeles Fashion Week with our unique runway shows and thought-provoking art installations. This move solidified our commitment to local production, where each piece is meticulously crafted using innovative printing techniques, ensuring the highest quality and minimizing our environmental impact.
Eager to share our vision with a wider audience, we ventured into the European market, showcasing our collections at prestigious trade shows like Who’s Next Paris and Pure London. Our bold colors, artistic influences, and commitment to sustainability resonated deeply with European consumers, opening doors to wider distribution and allowing Nuvula to reach a global audience.
In 2012, we marked a significant milestone by opening our flagship boutique in New York City, a testament to Nuvula’s growth and enduring connection to the city that inspired its inception.
Today, Nuvula is fortunate to have a loyal following of customers who appreciate our unique blend of artistry, sustainability, and wearability. Each piece reflects our dedication to quality craftsmanship and ethical production.
We are constantly evolving and expanding, but our core values remain at the heart of everything we do, ensuring that Nuvula will continue to inspire and captivate fashion lovers for years to come.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Our journey with Nuvula has been far from easy. The production process presented a constant challenge for years. Finding the right techniques, establishing streamlined processes, and building a team that could consistently deliver our high standards of quality was a formidable task.
Another significant obstacle was gaining traction in the competitive U.S. market. Many high-end boutiques were initially hesitant to embrace our bold, artistic designs. It took time and persistence to convince them that there was a clientele hungry for unique, statement-making pieces.
Our perseverance eventually paid off. Once we finally broke through, the response was incredible. It became clear that there was a vast market of fashion-forward individuals who craved garments that allowed them to express their individuality and make a bold statement.
This realization fueled Nuvula’s commitment to pushing boundaries and staying true to our artistic vision. Embracing our unique aesthetic and refusing to compromise on quality has been the key to our success, a lesson we carry with us every day.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a fashion and textile designer, my passion lies in the realm of prints. My work at Nuvula allows me to bring a unique vision to life, weaving together elements of texture, storytelling, and color to create dreamy, thematic collections. I’m particularly proud of the way we’ve been able to infuse our garments with a sense of artistry and whimsy, transforming them into wearable pieces of art.
Beyond Nuvula, I’ve had the opportunity to dive into the world of costume design, working on various music videos and short films. This platform has allowed me to experiment with bolder textures and draw inspiration from diverse art movements and eras. I love translating these influences into fresh concepts, playing with storylines, and crafting fabrics and garments that tell stories and make bold statements.
What sets me apart is my deep-rooted belief in the power of the seven arts to inspire and elevate fashion. I’m constantly seeking new ways to infuse my designs with elements of literature, cinema and painting. Each piece is an invitation to step into a world of imagination and self-expression, where fashion becomes a canvas for storytelling and artistic exploration.
