Daily Inspiration: Meet Raé Elle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raé Elle.

Hi Raé, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
At the age of 16 I lost my left hand in a jet ski accident. I was always known as the charismatic, bubbly girl who didn’t let anything get in the way of her. But, unfortunately this took me into one of the darkest places I’ve ever been without anyone knowing. I had to always put on a face for everyone so that everyone thought I was okay. I didn’t want to put my burden onto anyone else. I would lock myself in my room and cry asking God why me, I started to realize that I was the best fit for this situation to happen to someone. Music was my saving grace and helped me get through some of the toughest times in my life. When I sing, I go into another world and all of my problems are shut out. I attended Oklahoma State for college and it wasn’t an easy journey. I have always struggled in school and was never the smartest kid growing up, thinking it would get easier in college it only worsened. I would pull all-nighters studying just to earn a C maybe even a B if I was lucky! Music was always there for me to fall on and help me escape what was currently going thru.

I wasn’t as smart as the other kids, and it wasn’t until last year I started writing and singing. I sang in front of my friend for the first time, let alone the first person I had ever sang for other than my family hearing me in the shower! She was so shocked by my sound and told me to pursue it if I truly love it. She knew the tough times I was going through and school and knew I was trying to find something I was good at. I thought ehh maybe but never thought anything of it because my entire life, I’ve heard that the music industry is so hard to make it in so I never even looked in the direction. She told me “you never know unless you try and what will you be doing ten years from now? Wondering if you could have done it?” This amazing friend helped me get where I’m at today. My parents wanted me to finish my degree and I tried my best to accomplish that but in May 2020, I was supposed to graduate when the time came to get our diplomas in the mail, I didn’t receive anything. I called my advisor and he stated that I needed to retake a class in order to earn my degree. Unfortunately, I had to withdraw due to outside circumstances. I knew that I wanted to make something out of music and chase this dream, so three months ago I decided to pack my bags and move to the big city. I have connected with some of the most amazing people and written some amazing stuff already.

After writing my first song with my friend playing the guitar to it, I sat back and thought “wow I can’t believe I did this.” For the first time in my life, I finally feel like I’m good at something and I am so excited to release my music and share my journey for the world to hear. My real name is Rachel but I go by raé because I want my music to bring a ray of light into people’s lives. My songs walk you through the trials and tribulations of my journey in life through hidden messages so my listeners are able to take it into their own perspective! Although it is scary to open up for the world to hear, I am so excited and to help others know that they aren’t alone and are able to relate to someone.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been the farthest from smooth but I know that the clear roads are ahead! Not earning my degree was the hardest thing to bite into because I felt like I had let my family down but I know that I will make this worth it so they are able to be comfortable financially. Coming out here has been amazing for me finding myself and my sound but has been hard to find producers to help me bring my songs to life. I am just now starting to learn how to produce my own music because I know that I can’t sit and wait around for people to come I need to chase this dream on my own.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a singer-songwriter, I’m known for singing on my social media. What I’m most proud of? That’s a very good question. I believe that once I release my music that will be what I am most proud of. For right now, I would say moving across the country to chase my dream! I believe what sets me apart from others is that I’m not in it for the fame or fortune. The reason I make music is for people to know that they aren’t alone and have a support system they need whether it’s crying in their room alone to my song or blasting it with the windows down with their friends. I do it for the listeners and to make my family proud!

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My friends, they help me see the beauty in life without even knowing it. I cherish my friends to the highest of levels, in this day in age social media has taken over our view in the world and think that we need to drive the nicest car, or have the newest shoes, have the most followers when in reality we need to stop letting others live the lives we wanted by sitting in bed and watching others do amazing things. We need to live the life we want and that’s why my friends matter the most to me because they bring me joy and happiness. I live my best life when I am with them.
