Daily Inspiration: Meet Paulina Liquidano Rak

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paulina Liquidano Rak

Hi Paulina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a full-time pediatric audiologist and a part-time photographer/owner of Lina Mar Photography. Growing up I had always loved expressing myself through being creative! I enjoyed painting, drawing, dancing, and taking pictures. Photography has always been a part of my life, and one of my passions that I always came back to with new ideas as I continued to grow as a creative, and person and moved through different phases of my life. I began taking photography seriously after I took a photography class on a whim during my time in college and learned how to develop photos in the darkroom. What I had learned secondary to spending hours in the darkroom was that the reason I enjoyed photography so much was because it was the perfect blend of science, chemistry, and creativity. That showed me that I could simultaneously be a healthcare professional and a creative.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I believe that the first challenge I have faced was finding my photographic style. It took me a substantial amount of time and trial and error to find a style that I liked consistently. The second challenge was balancing time between my passion for healthcare and photography. For a few years while I was attending school, I had been taking less photos and doing less creative photoshoots than I would have liked due to having to prioritize studying.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I enjoy different areas of photography, and I am currently focusing on more than one. Most notably, I enjoy documentary, fine art, and film photography. I love to capture unscripted, candid human emotion that can be portrayed through photos as if it were a still from a movie. I also enjoy fine art photography as it allows me to experiment with various elements of art and truly bring out and tie in my creative side to my work. My affinity for film photography is largely due to the process and at times, the unexpected nature of the results. I am proud that with this creative outlet and passion, I can enjoy the process as much as the end result.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Consistency, determination, and accepting the fact that we are constantly learning. I feel that the only way I have been able to continue improving was by never settling for “good enough” and constantly seeking to learn and continue to grow skills, knowledge, and experience. My next goal is to launch my website and I am hoping to start doing more family, couples, and engagement photography sessions to continue expanding my skills and business.
