Daily Inspiration: Meet Neil “Nef” Serda

Today we’d like to introduce you to Neil “Nef” Serda

Hi NEIL “NEF” SERDA , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Neil “Nef” Serda, and I’m the founder and creative director of Ville De Svrgn. I grew up in a small town in Nebraska, surrounded by cornfields and dirt roads, but I always knew I was meant for something bigger. Fashion became my escape, I studied luxury brands through magazines and TV, even though I had no access to them. My style made me stand out, and while not everyone understood it, I never let that stop me.

At 17, I left home and moved through different cities, absorbing everything: music, culture, art, and, most importantly, fashion. Eventually, I landed in Miami, where I truly developed my hustler spirit. That city taught me how to move, network, and create opportunities for myself. It was there that I met my business partner, someone who shared my vision and has played a key role in expanding Ville De Svrgn’s presence, especially in the wholesale market.

From there, I continued to push forward, working for a successful women’s / men’s clothing designer and gaining firsthand experience in assisting a high-level fashion brand. Experiencing Paris Fashion Week and the world of runway fashion only fueled my ambition. I spent months overseas learning the industry, making connections, and refining my vision.

That journey led me to create Ville De Svrgn, a brand that reflects my experiences and passion for design. It’s more than just clothing – it’s about freedom, nostalgia, and the pursuit of something greater. Now based in Los Angeles, I also work as the creative director of a multimedia facility Hubble Studio, where I design for their in-house brand and use my skills in photography and video to bring my brand’s vision to life. My goal is to build Ville De Svrgn into a global name, proving that no matter where you come from, if you have the vision and the drive, you can make it happen.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all. There are some of the struggles I have faced.

1. Lack of Funding – Ville De Svrgn is entirely self-funded, which means staying consistent and keeping momentum after each collection release is a constant challenge. Proper funding plays a key role in making sure we don’t lose steam, but we can only move as fast as our budget allows.

2. Limited Budget for Marketing – Without a big marketing budget, getting Ville De Svrgn in front of the right audience has required me to be strategic, resourceful, and creative with every move.

3. Lack of Network for Product Placement – Breaking into the industry without an established network has been an uphill battle. Getting our products placed in the right stores and on the right people takes time and persistence.

4. Standing Out Among Thousands of Brands – The fashion industry is oversaturated, and I’m competing with thousands of other brands. I’ve had to work twice as hard to carve out a unique space and make Ville De Svrgn a name that stands out.

5. The Challenge of Building Full Collections – I’m not just printing on wholesale t-shirts and hoodies; I’m building full clothing collections where every detail matters. This takes time, effort, and precision, making every drop a major undertaking.

Even with all these challenges, I’ve never let them be an excuse. I keep pushing forward, knowing that vision, consistency, and relentless effort will always make a way.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Im a menswear designer. I’m from Bayard Nebraska, a town of 900 people. My creativity has taken me around the world and that’s something I’m very proud of. This is only the beginning. Being ME is what sets me apart from everyone else.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
To me, success is the fulfillment of my vision, the ability to bring an idea to life and see it resonate with others. It’s not just about money (although financial freedom is a goal) or recognition; it’s about building something meaningful, staying true to my purpose, and pushing through obstacles without losing momentum. Success means having the freedom to create on my own terms, to inspire others, and to keep evolving no matter where I started or what challenges come my way.
