Daily Inspiration: Meet Nefra Rolle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nefra Rolle

Hi Nefra, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The journey to founding Eden Creative Arts began with a deep desire to offer a learning environment rooted in creativity, exploration, and personal growth for our daughter Jubilee and other children in our community. After seeing firsthand the limitations of the traditional public school system, my husband Chris and I knew we wanted something more nurturing and individualized. My background as a visual artist with a BFA from Pratt Institute, and over 18 years of experience in the industry, has shown me the profound impact of hands-on, arts-based learning. I wanted to create a place where children could develop academically while expressing their unique creativity.

Chris brings his own powerful perspective to this mission. Growing up in foster care, he deeply understands the need for supportive, empowering spaces for children, especially those in underserved communities. His experiences have fueled a passion for creating opportunities that allow every child to feel seen, valued, and encouraged. Together, we envisioned a school that would provide the academic guidance, emotional support, and creative inspiration that kids need to truly thrive.

In our inaugural year, Eden Creative Arts has become more than just a micro-school; it’s a dynamic learning community for families seeking alternatives to traditional education—specifically, a micro-school or homeschool pod that emphasizes personalized learning in subjects like art, science, and music. Each week, our students engage in hands-on projects that build critical thinking, problem-solving, and self-expression. With my background in visual arts and Chris’s commitment to empowering young people, we aim to nurture well-rounded growth in every student.

We’re committed to creating a place where children can explore, imagine, and learn at their own pace. Families seeking a creative, supportive, and educational alternative to public school are finding a home at Eden Creative Arts. For us, this school is a way to make a meaningful difference, building a community that values both academic and personal growth for children from all backgrounds.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For us, the process of building Eden Creative Arts has been filled with both triumphs and challenges, requiring a deep commitment to our mission and countless personal sacrifices. Converting our three-bedroom home into a beautiful learning space for the children was actually the easiest part! From there, we poured ourselves into creating a curriculum that blends the arts, Spanish language, Christian values, and garden programs. It’s been amazing to see our vision come to life.

However, as a faith-based program, we don’t qualify for state or charter school funding. This makes funding one of our biggest hurdles, especially as we work to keep our program affordable for the low-income families we serve. We recently launched drop-in classes in math, reading/language arts, Spanish, music, art, and science to reach more children, but balancing accessibility with financial support has been a constant challenge.

Every bit of support we receive goes directly to enriching the children’s experience—whether through materials, resources, or community activities. Donations help keep Eden Creative Arts running and support our commitment to offering high-quality, faith-centered education to all families in our community, regardless of income. With the generosity of donors, we’re empowered to keep this dream alive and continue investing in the future of these children.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At Eden Creative Arts, I am fortunate to draw on a diverse background that blends over 18 years of professional experience in fashion design, brand management, and creative development. Growing up in Akron, Ohio, in the 80s, my early years were filled with creativity and encouragement, thanks to my mother, who recognized my talents early on. She was like Pinterest before Pinterest existed—introducing me to art, gardening, and a world of ideas that taught me to dream big and trust my creative instincts. By the time I attended Pratt Institute, where I earned my BFA, I had a solid foundation in the arts that inspired my later work in fashion and education.

Throughout my career, I’ve honed skills in business development, team building, and relationship management, with a focus on apparel design, brand consistency, trend forecasting, and project management. Currently, as a Design Director, I lead design and brand strategy for large private labels and boutique brands, focusing on innovation, quality, and market expansion. My expertise in communication, problem-solving, and brand growth aligns closely with the values I bring to Eden Creative Arts.

At Eden Creative Arts, we’re committed to offering a unique learning environment that emphasizes hands-on creativity, academic growth, and community connection. Our program is rooted in the belief that children learn best in a space that fosters both their intellectual and creative development. We blend Spanish language, Christian values, art, music, and science to provide a holistic approach that meets each child’s unique needs. My background in visual and performing arts, along with my extensive experience in brand and creative management, allows me to bring a unique perspective to the school.

What truly sets Eden Creative Arts apart is our dedication to creating a faith-centered learning environment that prioritizes both academic and personal growth. We are deeply rooted in Christian values, using timeless Bible stories like David and Goliath, Jonah and the Whale, and Noah’s Ark to build character and inspire resilience. These stories teach our students about courage, faith, compassion, and perseverance—qualities we believe are essential for well-rounded development.

In our classrooms, students engage with these classic stories in hands-on ways that connect biblical lessons with real-life applications, helping them understand and embrace these values. This approach nurtures a deep sense of integrity, purpose, and kindness, allowing students to grow academically while also developing a strong moral foundation.

At Eden Creative Arts, we strive to cultivate a unique space where students experience meaningful learning that celebrates both their individuality and their faith, preparing them to face life’s challenges with confidence and compassion.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along this journey is that building something meaningful requires resilience, faith, and a willingness to embrace the unexpected. Starting Eden Creative Arts was a leap of faith for my husband Chris and me, but it was grounded in a deep desire to offer children a unique, holistic educational experience rooted in creativity and Christian values.

We quickly discovered that creating a learning environment that prioritizes both academic growth and personal development requires more than just a curriculum; it takes an unwavering commitment to the vision, even when faced with challenges like limited funding or balancing personal and professional sacrifices. I’ve learned that with every hurdle, there’s an opportunity for growth, for creativity, and for leaning into the values we hope to instill in our students—faith, perseverance, and community.

This journey has shown me that the values we teach through Bible stories like David and Goliath, or Jonah and the Whale—stories of courage, faith, and resilience—aren’t just for the students. They’re a daily practice for all of us involved in this mission, shaping a space that truly impacts young lives and helps them grow with purpose and compassion.
