Daily Inspiration: Meet Morshan Ward II

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morshan Ward II.

Morshan Ward II

Hi Morshan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up in Compton, CA. There wasn’t much to do, so as a kid, I had a fondness for drawing and music; my older sister had A Jay-Z, and Linkin Park’s collab album was my favorite thing as a kid. Fast forward to 5th grade was the first time I was introduced to garage band, also learned the Saxaphone in middle school. Through high school, my wrestling coach was my Art Teacher, and he taught me ways to hone my skills artistically. During college, I attended Clark Atlanta University, which brought everything full circle, studying Art and Advertising. I was always in the art department surrounded by musicians, painters, photographers, you name it! Since then, I have been a part of group showcases with the Innerspace Gallery and Byrd Museum, to name a couple, and a handful of shows I would put together with some of my friends! I’d like to describe myself as a Painter, producer, or Creative director. I started producing music a little while before the pandemic. I hope to eventually get music production to the same level as my art and get some placements. I’ve designed jackets, shoes, graphics, murals, album covers just about the full spectrum of what you can do with an Image, I’ve done it and done it well!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some struggles I’ve had along the way is always wondering should I create things I know people would gravitate too or things I like that might be moody or darker, I do nowadays find balance in both. Another struggle is it’s really hard to get into Major showcases with big platforms because sometimes they can be picky, understandably they go for what might be more popular sometimes rather than what’s good or great.

A lot of times, I get things done because, after a while, a good network and good work speaks for itself.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an oil painter and music producer. I specialize in figurative and surrealist paintings. (I can paint realism/ portraits)

And on the music production side Hip hop and R and B

I’d like to think of my paintings as the connection between technology, nature, and religion. I feel as if it all ties together.

I am most proud of the level my work has come to; of course, when I started, I wasn’t that great, but now nobody denies I have something special.

I think what sets me apart from people is my ability to dig deep and find the root and the core of something and then be able to creatively display that.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
