Daily Inspiration: Meet Mikey Favela

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikey Favela.

Hi Mikey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As a little kid, I was infatuated with drawing, whether it was drawing characters or drawing makeup on my women in magazines. As I got into high school I was able to purchase makeup on my own and I would sit in my room and practice on myself or I’d practice on my mom. I am so proud as a gay Mexican man in Los Angeles, I am able to achieve my goals putting on a smile on one face at a time with my makeup.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
At the age of 19, I was diagnosed with cancer and after four long months of chemotherapy, I was in remission after given a second chance of life My mission became to put a smile on everyone’s face with my art and creativity being my makeup. I promised myself I would never give up and here I am today 29 years old working as a full-time makeup artist. Leaving my 9-5 job was a struggle at first, but I made sure I was able to overcome that.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a professional makeup artist specializing in glam, film and bridal makeup. My work is known for the sultry bronzey look, some would call it the Kim Kardashian look. My mom’s proud moment would be the feedback I always get from my clients. From a simple thank you as well. What sets me apart from others is that I make sure you get an experience out of an appointment with me, it’s more than just getting your makeup done; it’s a time where you let go of all your worries and become this alter ego that deep down inside we all have.

What’s next?
I currently work out of a private at-home beauty studio where I offer different services. In the future, I am planning on opening up my own storefront beauty school and studio.
