Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Lira.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Music has always been a part of me, as I’m sure like with most people, but just listening to it wasn’t enough. I wanted to play and create it from a young age. Wasn’t until I was 14 when a friend taught me the bass one day. My life was forever changed. Throughout high school I played in Metal bands and was just obsessed with Metal music but it wasn’t until I joined The Mendenhall Experiment, where I started to see some success. We toured, played some major festivals and wrote music with top artists and producers but I was feeling unfulfilled because I knew that I was working to help someone else’s vision and dream come true. Though I had some amazing experiences, I felt I needed to make something that was my vision and my sound so Where It Lies was born. Anthony Ornelas was the first member to join. We both started sharing the same vision and set off to find the right members to complete the line up. We found a Bassist and drummer that were available so we asked them to join and the 1st full line up was complete. Part of a growing band that’s unfortunate, is that change is sometimes painful but necessary. We would later find Tim Creasy on drums and Ray Alegre on bass which is the current line up and has been for 4 years now and we’re blessed to have them. This year has been very kind to us, with a growing fan base and playing bigger stages, all while enjoying our time together in these shared experiences. We are excited to see what the future holds so stay tuned!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Finding the right members was our first major challenge. It’s very important that all members see eye to eye. Then discovering our image and sound has been another challenge as well as trying to get our music heard by as many people as possible. Promoting, marketing and playing the right shows all have lots to do with the success of a band.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Our lyrics touch on many things that resonates with most, if not all people. Our music is raw yet melodic. Both of these together create songs that have been praised by many in the music industry. Our proudest moments are when we receive messages from fans expressing how our music has affected and touched them in a positive way.
What does success mean to you?
Personally, success to me means, finding something you love and enjoy despite money and fame. If you enjoy and love something, DO IT! Find time for it and soak it in. Life should be balanced by the things you enjoy and when you find yourself happy balancing life, that’s success. Now that that I’m a new father, and self-employed, it’s been harder to balance it all but thankfully I have a wonderful wife that helps keep me motivated also beings balance to my life.
