Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Brown.
Hi Mike, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I got my start in podcasting journey in 2017 because therapy was too expensive. Initially, this was a space for me to work through my challenges from sexuality to self-worth and everything in between. Healing and growing in real-time. During the pandemic was when the podcast started to really grow because people were looking for mental health resources for people of color and I noticed that the show was being shared a lot.
Fast forward to today, this year I worked with Spotify on a 4-day residency that was turned into a documentary. Realizing that my passion project was becoming serious, I quit my job as an elementary school educator to pursue being a creative entrepreneur full-time. Currently, I teach podcasting to children, I created a virtual podcasting course and have been leading workshops on podcasting and stepping into public speaking. I also released a book earlier this year. Along with a meditation project that is led by James “DatYogaDude” Woods. I have not been limiting myself to creating in just one medium.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Hell no! lol. The road has not been smooth at all. But I couldn’t imagine it being any other way. Fear has been the one thing that has held me up the most in my journey. I think at this stage, I have had to adjust from the employee mindset to being in business for myself. It’s not like having a job where no matter how hard you work, you get the same thing every two weeks. With this, I am playing the long game so I have to give my best every time even if there is no instant gratification. But, at the same time even with my challenges, I land every time I jump so that is what keeps me going on the journey even when it doesn’t feel the greatest.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I do a little bit of everything. I would say right now, I’m most known for my podcast, The Art of Letting Go. I am also a musician, an author, a public speak, an all-around multi-medium artist. I’m proud of everything I’ve done. Being from Houston, TX. Mo City to be exact. A lot of this life I couldn’t even imagine so it’s all special to me. But, of recent experiences, I would say my work with Spotify on the residency and a project I was able to contribute music and wisdom to incarcerated youth through Carnegie Hall called The Re Up.
What sets me apart from others is my authenticity and my vulnerability. I’m great at expressing my feelings and emotions but not good at hiding them so I will share how I feel every time whether it be a conversation or a song, it will always feel like me.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’m open to working with people in all ways. I don’t want to be limited to podcasting and music. If you create in any medium and want to collaborate, email is the best way to get in touch.
If you want to support me and the show, I do have merch available on the website. I do have a Patreon. Sharing my work with people you think may benefit from it. All support is appreciated.
