Daily Inspiration: Meet Miguel Toxtle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miguel Toxtle

Hi Miguel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always been captivated by the visual impact of tattoos and the personal stories they tell. Art has always been a part of my life so the idea of modifying one’s appearance through art was incredible appealing. I knew I wanted more tattoos on me than I could afford in my early 20’s and with already a background in different art mediums I decided to search for an apprenticeship. Starting out was not easy. Like any art form, tattooing required dedication and patience. Over the years I’ve honed my skills and have build a career and a portfolio that I’m proud of.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I started trying to get into the tattoo industry I did feel intimidated thinking that I would not be accepted because I was young gay Latino artist. I saw the tattoo community as a very masculine and exclusive. I was happy to find out that though there weren’t many gay people of color like me in the community at that time I did feel accepted. The tattoo industry now is so diverse and it’s nice to see.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
In my work as a tattoo artist, I specialize in adapting to each client’s unique vision, which means I don’t stick to one specific style. Instead, I enjoy exploring a variety of styles to match the project’s needs or the client’s preferences. With 18 years of experience, I’ve had the opportunity to practice and refine my skills across many different styles, making me adaptable and able to execute a wide range of tattoo designs. What sets me apart is my commitment to continuous learning and growth, always incorporating new techniques and insights into my work. I’m proud of my ability to bring each client’s vision to life while constantly evolving as an artist.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I would say patience especially if you have already excelled in other art forms. The learning curve is rough and you will hate your work. Authenticity and passion is what I think makes a good tattoo artist.
