Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle And Ashley
Michelle and Ashley, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The two of us initially met as colleagues but quickly developed a friendship. We shared a deep passion for social skills and a desire to make a meaningful impact, yet we often felt frustrated by the lack of resources available. Many parents and caregivers approached us with concerns about their children facing social challenges, but they struggled to access services due to long waitlists and the requirement of a formal diagnosis in many cases. This sparked numerous candid discussions about the substantial need for social skills services within both the neurodivergent and neurotypical communities. It soon became clear that we both envisioned opening our own practice to create a safe, inclusive environment where individuals could be themselves while learning the essential skills to navigate social situations successfully. From one of these many conversations, Social Behavior Co. was officially established.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As first-time business owners, starting Social Behavior Co. has certainly been a valuable learning experience for us. We have faced several challenges inherent to running a business, including delays in legal contracts, limitations on where we can market, finding a suitable location for our social skills groups, and forming groups that align by age range and skill level. Despite these hurdles, each challenge has offered us an opportunity to learn and grow as business owners and partners. Our collaboration is strong, as we each bring unique skills to Social Behavior Co., making this process even more rewarding.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At Social Behavior Co., we provide center-based social skills therapy for individuals of all ages, including children, teens, adults, and their families. Our mission is to help those facing social challenges reach their full potential while acquiring a diverse range of prosocial skills. We take great pride in the strong rapport we have developed with our clients and their caregivers, as well as the progress our clients make. It’s especially rewarding to witness the transformation in caregivers as they gain the skills and confidence necessary to support their children in maintaining these skills. What sets us apart is that we are a privately owned, small company, allowing us to offer almost immediate access to our services when they are a good fit for the family. Our team consists of two board-certified professionals with extensive experience in directly facilitating 1:1 and group sessions. Through evidence-based interventions and a person-centered approach, we strive to create a nurturing and inclusive environment that promotes positive behavior change, fosters social connections, and enhances the quality of life for our clients and their families.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
As Los Angeles natives, we take pride in providing a meaningful service in an area we both know and love. What we value most about Los Angeles, particularly our location in Montrose-La Crescenta, is the community’s diversity and its family-oriented atmosphere. Although our least favorite aspect of LA is the traffic, we have learned to accept it as part of the city’s charm and culture (sometimes – lol).
