Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Siracusa.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Mia Siracusa. I’m an actress, artist, and writer. I started out painting, which is a great tool for self-reflection and self-exploration. It can also be isolating, which is why I was drawn to acting. I am so moved by other people: the motives we share, the fears we share, and the love we share. I was more and more intrigued with the storytelling of acting and began to develop my own stories, and then fell in love with writing.
Having all three outlets has provided me with a lot of balance in the way I express, process, and explore my own inner world and the way I connect with the world around me.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The biggest struggle I’ve had as an artist has been remaining open and sensitive to the world while also not taking rejection or others’ opinions personally. I think this is the universal struggle of artists: finding the balance between softness and healthy confidence. External validation can be so satisfying, but it is also fleeting. I’ve found the path through this struggle is to put the focus back on myself, to remember that I’m creating art because I feel a need to, and to create art that I like.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m most proud of my personal growth and how I can see that reflected in my art. The more I trust myself and leave myself alone, the more I like what I create. My paintings are celebrations of the little moments in life that are often overlooked. I take inspiration from the color palettes of the world around me and create a new scene on the canvas to reflect my internal experience of these moments. What inspires me the most in acting is the same little magic moments that can only happen if we leave ourselves alone and let ourselves be present with our scene partners. With writing, I find the most interesting stories to be the intimate moments created by absurd circumstances.
I wouldn’t have been able to let these inspirations develop without my personal growth, and I’m very grateful to see it benefitting my art.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Treating others with kindness. There are so many interesting people around us, and giving people the space to express themselves benefits everyone involved in a project.
