Daily Inspiration: Meet Meghna Verma

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghna Verma

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Meghna, which means “something that resides within the clouds, like lightning, thunder, and brilliance.” And let me tell you, my life has lived up to that name! At just one-year-old, I embarked on a grand adventure, taking my first international flight from Southeast Asia to Southern California. My first steps in this amazing country ignited a spark to propel me on a lifelong journey in art, academia, and public health.
Fast forward to age 19. I was seemingly healthy and flourishing in college, but a nagging feeling sent me on a detour to the doctor’s office. Little did I know that high blood pressure was a silent threat lurking in the background. One twist of fate led to another, and I soon found myself facing a daunting challenge: being required to have a kidney transplant. Faced with this unexpected obstacle, of finding a kidney, I refused to give up. Little did I know about how even to begin finding a kidney donor; the question wasn’t “Where do I find a donor?” but “How can I conquer this mountain of challenges?”. I plunged headfirst into learning everything I could about kidney disease, organ transplantation, advocacy around transplantation, and post-surgery care. I was determined to emerge stronger on the other side. Thanks to the incredible gift of organ donation, I’m thriving today. And my mission? To be a beacon of hope, an incredible artist, and a healthcare provider empowering others to navigate their own healthcare journeys by providing them with the resources and knowledge they need. My current artistic ventures take me across the tiniest canvases imaginable: people’s fingernails! I enjoy the one-on-one connection I forge with each client. During these intimate moments, we share stories, dreams, and aspirations, all while I transform their nails from plain and uncut into vibrant works of art. Whoever said getting a manicure is cheaper than therapy is not wrong! There’s something uniquely personal about creating beauty while holding someone’s hand and listening to their deepest thoughts and dreams.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey towards better physical and mental health was not an easy one. Not at all. Imagine being restricted to only a radius that allows you to come home every night while you are on dialysis. It had been incredibly challenging. Dialysis took up to thirteen hours every night, which left me incredibly tired from classes and forgetting about work. Balancing college with that kind of treatment schedule is tough as one never has enough energy. Add a special renal diet, nausea and weakness, and 10 plus pills multiple times a day, and you have the perfect combination to going into a very sad and stagnant phase of life. Socially, it was very isolating as well. Nobody my age was able to understand a chronic disease like kidney disease when the only thing on every 20-year-old mind was, “What party are we going to tonight? Dialysis kept me tethered to a machine, which made it hard to maintain a normal social life. Finding a kidney donor had also been difficult. Every time a potential donor was not matched, it felt like a huge setback and a blow to one’s self-esteem. The hardest part, honestly, is talking to people about needing a kidney. It can feel awkward bringing up organ donation like you’re broaching a sensitive or taboo subject. You never want someone to feel pressured and worry about seeming overly dramatic. But through all this, the truth is that every conversation is a chance, and staying silent might mean missing out on the one person who could be my perfect match.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a licensed nail technician, I take immense pride in helping my clients radiate confidence and celebrate life’s special moments. My passion lies in natural nail care and builder gel applications, allowing me to craft beautiful, long-lasting enhancements that complement each client’s unique style.

My joy in creating exquisite bridal nail designs truly sets me apart. For me, these symbolize the exhilarating new beginnings couples embark on, a feeling that resonates deeply with my own experience receiving a life-saving organ donation. Just like that incredible gift, beautifully cared-for nails represent a fresh start, a chance to embrace life’s infinite possibilities with a renewed passion for all the things that are yet to come.

This connection inspires me to create not just stunning nails, encrusted with beautiful patterns and Swarovski crystals but a truly uplifting experience for every client. By prioritizing nail health and celebrating their journey, I strive to offer a service as meaningful as grand and pretty.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The secret ingredient to my success, I believe, is a mix of passion for healthy nails and a genuine appreciation for the connections I build with my clients. It all starts with the foundation – I prioritize the long-term health of my client’s natural nails. This sets me apart from technicians focusing solely on speed or dramatic transformations. My clients appreciate the care I take, and it fosters a sense of trust that allows our relationship to flourish.

But it’s not just about the nails themselves. Bridal designs hold a special place in my heart. They symbolize the exhilarating new beginnings couples embark on, a feeling that resonates deeply with my own experience of receiving a life-saving organ donation. This connection allows me to connect with clients on a deeper level, understanding the importance of celebrating life’s milestones and the joy of feeling confident and beautiful.

Honestly, let me tell you, this positive outlook isn’t always easy. I always tell everyone I meet, positivity takes practice. There are days when life throws curveballs, and it takes a conscious effort to see the bright side. But here’s the thing – I genuinely enjoy the challenge, which makes life a unique experience. Choosing positivity allows me to create stunning nails and craft an uplifting experience for every client. By prioritizing nail health, celebrating their journeys along with mine, and fostering a positive space, I strive to offer a service that’s as purposeful as it is beautiful
