Daily Inspiration: Meet Martín Velásquez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Martín Velásquez.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Martin is a multidisciplinary artist who began his artistic training at the age of 17. He studied acting in workshops such as the Advanced Acting Workshop with Alberto Isola, the Acting Training Workshop with David Carrillo, and completed a two-month program in Acting for Film at the New York Film Academy.

He began his professional career acting in “telenovelas” in Peru, and has also performed in both traditional and musical theater productions. His stage credits include Rock of Ages, Dear Evan Hansen, and The Glass Menagerie.

With an international trajectory that includes work in Peru and Bolivia, 2023 marked a turning point in his career. After studying in New York, he officially made the leap to the United States, auditioning for regional theater. He was quickly cast in the musical Mamma Mia, which significantly boosted his international artistic career.

This momentum has led him to work between New York and Los Angeles, where he recently made his Off-Broadway debut in the play Aguardiente: Soul of the Caribbean.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I believe every path inevitably presents its challenges, and the most important thing is to face them with a genuine desire to learn.

In those moments, I met wonderful people—some I worked with professionally, and others who taught me invaluable lessons, both in Latin America and the United States. With them, I was able to share deeply and continue growing in my commitment to personal transformation. I believe that professional growth cannot be separated from my evolution as a human being.
Even in the smallest details, far from my homeland, I found the motivation to become a clearer version of myself. While I discovered many opportunities abroad, I remain deeply grateful to my place of origin, which opened the doors for me to begin exploring my potential and growing continuously as both an artist and a person.

The decision that truly pushed me to seek change was a childhood longing to aspire to something greater—and the turning point was the loss of both my parents. From that experience, I learned that life is incredibly short, and that by remembering them with love and respect, I could channel that energy into transformation—for those around me, and most importantly, for myself. Every time I think of them, I’m reminded that I am exactly where I’m meant to be, and I feel very proud of that.
Despite my insecurities and fears, stepping into new environments awakened a discipline and persistence I didn’t know I had. Like now, in the United States, where I’m living dreams that have come true—dreams I will continue to embrace, and as I said at the beginning, learn from with enthusiasm, no matter what comes next.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Well, I’m an actor, always have been. I specialize more in film and Musical Theatre. Back in Peru I’m known for a lot of Telenovelas but my biggest and proudest work has always been in film and stage. I think my mindset is what keeps me on my toes and gives me the courage to step up for the challenges ahead and makes me believe I can achieve my goals, professionally and personally.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I think I’m a HUGE risk taker. Thinking about leaving your comfort zone is always a risk. For quite some time I was thinking about new challenges and horizons but didn’t quite had the final push to do it. I do believe more the risk, more the reward. Being in LA and NYC is one of the biggest risks I’m doing but I know I can do it. No bet is done if you don’t think you’re gonna do it.
