Daily Inspiration: Meet Marie (Mars) Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marie (Mars) Jones.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in a small suburban area that never quite felt like me. I was always daydreaming about leaving and traveling or using music, reading, and film/TV to escape. I began modeling quite young with a small agency and worked through high school and my first year or two of college. I quickly realized modeling wasn’t creatively fulfilling unless I had input on the shoots’ visuals, so I tried social media management and content creation. I was pretty great at it, but constant social media use drained the life out of me. It wasn’t until I started film school, acting, and writing music that my spark ignited. I felt a calling to create using the same mediums of art that inspired me throughout my life and I’m really happy to be on this honest path with myself now.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I had a difficult childhood and left my hometown when I was seventeen. Finding my own way in the world has been the hardest and best thing I’ve ever done. Supporting myself from a young age is what pushed me into my art and beautiful people I’m surrounded by now.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am currently in film school specializing in acting, directing and production design. I work on any projects I can whether I’m directing, acting in a school production or helping out art departments on various sets. Film is one of the best parts of my life, but music has always been and remains my first love. In my free time I write my songs and am really excited to finally be getting them produced. Keep an ear out, my first EP is on its way!

I think I’ve always felt pressured to choose one creative path but I’m learning to love that I’m a complex person and have multiple ways of expressing myself, I think that makes me very lucky. Some people don’t have any creative outlet, I was one of those people.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
My favorite books are The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, and I’m currently enjoying Story by Robert McKee. My favorite podcast is any video from Nero Knowledge on youtube, he has an incredible way of reminding me that my outer world always reflects the world within me.
