Today we’d like to introduce you to Mande The BSW.
Hi Mande, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Mande Peter, known professionally as “The BSW”, an acronym for “The Biggest Star Within.” A dynamic singer, songwriter, and performer, BSW hails from Gboko Local Government Area in Benue State, Nigeria, and represents a refreshing wave of talent emerging from the Middle Belt. (Early Life and Education)Born on December 7, 1994, BSW’s journey into music began in his formative years. Surrounded by the rich cultural rhythms of Benue State, I gravitated naturally towards music and the performing arts. My passion was evident from a young age as I wrote songs and performed at school clubs, talent shows, and social gatherings, developing not just my voice, but my stage presence and storytelling ability. I later pursued higher education at Benue State University, Makurdi, where he studied Theatre Arts, graduating in 2019. My academic background in performance arts further refined my artistic identity and helped shape his dynamic approach to music. (Current Endeavors and Collaborations) BSW currently teamed up with Tattoo Muzik Group (TMG), a forward-thinking music collective founded by Sten Joddi; a decorated artist and enrolled member of the Mvskoke Nation of Oklahoma. Sten Joddi is internationally recognized as one of today’s most impactful indigenous hip-hop artists, with multiple awards to his name.Since the global pandemic, Joddi has become “Native Famous,” gaining widespread acclaim for his acting debut as Punkin Lusty – the rapping absentee father of Bear, in the critically acclaimed FX series Reservation Dogs, created by Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi (now streaming on Hulu). With TMG’s international reach and BSW’s innate artistry, the collaboration represents a promising bridge between African Afro-pop and Indigenous American hip-hop – a rare but powerful cultural fusion poised to make waves globally. The BSW Vision True to his name, “The Biggest Star Within,” BSW believes that greatness begins from within, a message I consistently channels through my music. With each release, i carves a niche for myself in Nigeria’s competitive music scene, steadily building a fan base that transcends borders. As i continues to refine my craft and expand his reach, BSW remains committed to uplifting his roots, representing his culture, and inspiring the next generation of creatives from Benue and beyond.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey has been a smooth one. I feel successful because many people especially in my home town look up to me. I believe i will be bigger in the near future. The only challenge I can point out is the inability to raise funds so I can invest in my craft. I never sees it a challenge though, because I know the right time would come soon, when I can have all the resources to take my music career to the higher level.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I make good music. My sound is rooted in Afro-pop, blending rhythmic African beats with contemporary pop influences, catchy melodies, and relatable lyrics. My music is both celebratory and introspective, drawing inspiration from personal experiences, cultural heritage, and global trends. My lyrical content often explores themes of ambition, love, self-discovery, and resilience — making me a voice for youth empowerment and a beacon of originality in an industry that values authenticity.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I like the structures, The people and how advance life is lived over here. As well how beautiful the environment is arranged.
I dislike the weather.
