Today we’d like to introduce you to Major Wednesday
Hi Major, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Well, I’ve always been a performance kid. As far back as I can remember I loved to entertain. I was born & raised in Baltimore, MD. My mother is a member of The Unos, a local female Hip Hop group in the 1980s most notable for their album ‘No Zeros’ released under BMI, so I’ve always been around entertainers having a pioneer of Hip Hop as a mother. I grew up idolizing her, Michael Jackson, Prince, and Madonna. I wanted to be like them. I’d say around 14 years of age I started to write music, and at 18 producing. I was a bit nerdy. I was president of the poetry club in middle school. As well as a marching band & theater geek in high school. I spent my weekends making home movies with friends, and making music in my room most of the time. I didn’t party much until my 20’s. To be honest, I have a goal. Like many I didn’t have much of a plan. I still don’t. ha-ha! I know what I want, and what I want to make. In my pursuit I found like-minded individuals who too have big dreams, and are willing to help foster mine.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has not been an easy one. The early years were rough. Not everyone is a fan, and many will misunderstand you. I’ve been bullied in school. It can be embarrassing. Not knowing who you are, but knowing what you want to be. It takes a lot of courage to tell the world who you are, and not have it dictated to you. I always found it more comfortable being myself no matter the cost.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a singer/songwriter, and producer. I dance. I can act, and model. I’m best known for my music. My personal passions. I’m proud of the sounds I’ve made. It’s a lot of hard work, but I feel a powerful connection to music. I feel more comfortable dancing & singing on stage than going to the super market in truth. My music is like my diary. Each album/project is a chapter of my life. I like to listen back sometimes to see how I’ve grown, and I’m only just beginning. I’m excited to see what happens next. Who I’ll work with. What kind of experiences will we create together? It’s so exciting! What sets me apart from other artists is my personal vision and design. No matter the artist in question, we all create our various realities.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I say start at home. If you have parents that you trust, and look up to start there. If not, maybe a teacher. I had quite a few mentors in life. Look for people who want to see you win, and would do anything to help you achieve those goals. Be like those you look up to. What is it about them that drew you to them? Cultivate their gifts, but make it your own. If you continue to figure out who you are, and own what that is, people will naturally come to you. The right people, and what I mean is like-minded folks that have a similar dream, and will want to work with you to make that dream real. Just be yourself. I urge everyone to do so, and to be honest with themselves about who exactly they are. You may lie, but never to yourself. That’s the road to ruin.
