Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindy Fox.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was raised on a California farm; playing in cotton fields is one of my earliest memories, no doubt shaping my desire to become a fashion designer. My childhood as well as traveling consistently influence my design decision-making today.
My time spent living between New York and Los Angeles has also cultivated an understanding for what modern families need from their clothing.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My path has been somewhat narrow but far from linear. I knew when I was just 16 years old that I wanted to enter the fashion industry and I have only worked in that industry since! My mom would take me to fashion shows in DTLA and I loved the programs that FIDM offered so I knew I wanted to attend there right after high school. I majored in Apparel Manufacturing Management, then moved to NYC to work in wholesale, then later production. After working very long hours for a startup, I realized I wanted to work creatively, so I pursued a 2nd degree in Fashion Design from FIT in NYC. While “starting over” with a new degree as an adult wasn’t easy or convenient, it was worth every hour of study. After graduation I worked as a freelance designer for some of America’s most beloved brands, then branched out on my own, did consulting work, and then finally launched my own label, Lindy Fox.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Lindy Fox is a collection of matching family sets. Sets for your family photoshoots!
We call upon the expertise of artisans to create truly unique pieces. Observing an ever-more-sustainable, process-focused practice, the brand operates in a Made-On-Demand model.
Each piece is created only after the customer purchases it, then lovingly made in the Dominican Republic, ensuring fair labor practices every step of the way.
Each garment is made from high quality fabric and non-toxic dyes and given the utmost attention to detail.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
I’d say, be endlessly curious, study all that you can, everything is relevant to your future. I wish I’d known how important focus is. I struggled for years to become a focused person in all areas of life, not just my creativity. But it wasn’t until my late twenties that I truly locked in to focus.
