Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Tatyana
Hi Lauren, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Music has always been a constant in my life—sometimes taking center stage, other times lingering in the background—but I’ve always found my way back to it. From an early age, I knew I wanted to build a career doing what I love, and for me, that has always been music and the arts.
My journey gained momentum when a well known DJ JPA reached out to me after he heard one of the covers I posted online and really liked the sound of my voice. He wanted me to feature on one of his upcoming tracks. A snowball of opportunities followed and I’m still just riding that wave. I don’t plan to get off anytime soon!
Music has taken me from international tours with my school choir to performing my own original songs on stage. As I’ve grown, my music has evolved alongside me, shaped by my experiences and the stories I’ve lived.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
At first I found it really scary to put my lyrics, my inner-most thoughts, out there for the world. It felt super vulnerable. Then I realised that human-condition is so universal and the whole purpose of music is to share in these experiences; to realise you’re not going through it alone. I still have moments of doubt; where I question my ideas or hear that voice telling me my dreams are too big. But I’ve learned that letting go of that fear is the only way forward.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I come from a choir background, have always loved R&B and am inspired by many different genres which all inform my music. My biggest influences are Jorja Smith, Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Amy Winehouse and Lauryn Hill. I’m regularly told that my voice doesn’t match my body which I love and am happy to be unpredictable. In a world where it’s encouraged to fit in, music allows me to just be. I’m proud of how I remained true to that.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the hustle of LA and that it’s a city of very like-minded, creative and inspiring people. It means you have to work extra hard to stand out but I find that super motivating.
