Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Chan.
Hi Kyle, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Kyle Chan launched his jewelry business during a profoundly challenging time when his partner was diagnosed with leukemia. Driven by a desire to create and share beauty in the face of adversity, he began making jewelry in the hospital. Initially, he sold his pieces to local businesses and at street fairs, gradually expanding into wholesale jewelry trade shows to secure wholesale accounts while also establishing an online presence.
His passion for design and craftsmanship, coupled with a commitment to high quality materials, laid the foundation for his success. Chan discovered his love for jewelry making during high school through a dedicated jewelry class, and he further honed his skills by teaching himself through online resources, including YouTube tutorials. To deepen his knowledge, he also studied at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).
Through word of mouth and the strategic use of social media, Chan gained significant traction in the industry. His collaborations with numerous celebrities, including Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, ,Mariah Carey, and Ariana Grande as well as his contributions to the Oscar-winning film “La La Land,” further elevated his brand’s visibility. Additionally, his appearances on popular reality TV shows like “Bling Empire,” “Vanderpump Rules,” and “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” showcased his designs to a broader audience.
Chan’s dedication to personalized service and custom designs helped distinguish his business in a competitive market, ultimately leading to the creation of a successful brand recognized for its contemporary and timeless pieces.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My business journey has always been incredibly challenging. At the beginning , I faced struggles with limited capital that impeded investment in materials and marketing. Inventory management was a constant balancing act.
Building relationships with suppliers often led to frustrations, and the administrative burdens were overwhelming, detracting from my focus on design. The emotional toll was significant, marked by late nights worrying about cash flow and the fear of failure.
Despite the tears and struggles, each obstacle strengthened my resilience and determination, helping me emerge more knowledgeable and committed to success.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in creating one of a kind jewelry pieces that are timeless, chic, and versatile. My approach involves studying personal aesthetics, particularly through observing celebrities and their styles both on the red carpet and in everyday life. This allows me to design customized pieces that genuinely resonate with my clients’ individual styles.
I take pride in forging meaningful connections through my jewelry, transforming each piece into a unique statement that reflects the wearer’s personality. This focus on individuality and quality craftsmanship sets my work apart in the jewelry industry.
How do you think about luck?
I believe luck also came in the form of timing and connections, like when Miley Cyrus became an early fan or when my designs were featured in the film La La Land. These moments opened doors I couldn’t have planned. However, I never relied on luck alone; consistent hard work, staying true to myself, and building genuine relationships have been the foundation of my success.
So, while luck brought some fortunate breaks, it was the persistence and passion behind the scenes that truly shaped my journey.
