Today we’d like to introduce you to Kareem Jrab.

Kareem Jrab

Hi Kareem, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey began in Beirut back in 2020, a pivotal moment when I decided to pursue my dreams amidst the economic downturn and political unrest plaguing my homeland. With the weight of survival pressing down on so many, I knew I needed to seek opportunities elsewhere. That’s when I made the leap to the United States in pursuit of a brighter future.

Unlike Beirut, where challenges hindered artistic expression and personal growth, the US offered a plethora of possibilities. Here, I could focus on filmmaking, connect with fellow creatives, and immerse myself in the vibrant movie industry. Adapting to a new environment wasn’t easy, but the warmth and acceptance of those I encountered made the transition smoother.

Living away from home provided me with a fresh perspective and enriched my creative vision. Every piece of art I produce is infused with the experiences and lessons learned along the way. Through dedication, perseverance, and a love for my craft, I’ve been able to carve out a path that’s uniquely my own.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey has been tough, filled with bumps along the way that tested both my creativity and personal resolve. As an artist today, it’s a constant struggle to stay authentic while also navigating the pressure to conform. Leaving Beirut was one of the hardest decisions I’ve made, but being embraced by a community of fellow artists and passionate individuals reaffirmed that it was the right choice. Their support has given me the courage to embrace my true self and explore new ideas that reflect the person I am becoming with each passing day.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I see myself as more than just an artist—I’m a storyteller, a creator who channels emotions and experiences into various forms of expression. From directing films to painting, writing, and capturing moments through photography, I immerse myself fully in every medium I touch.

With each stroke of the brush or word on the page, I’m not just creating art; I’m molding my identity and leaving a piece of myself behind. My journey, my struggles, and my triumphs all find their way into my work, giving it depth and authenticity.

What sets me apart is my willingness to embrace the unpredictable. I thrive on the chaos of creativity, exploring new territories with experimental films and inviting viewers to join me in the journey, interpreting my art through their own unique perspectives.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The COVID-19 crisis taught me the value of patience—patience with myself, especially when facing creative blocks. It was about learning to live alone, surrounded by a whirlwind of thoughts during lockdown, and not rushing the creative process just because others seemed to be doing so.
