Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamaryn Potter.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started working in New York City as soon as my feet hit the pavement, where I lived for about 13 years. I worked for many different people, doing many different things in many creative/corporate environments until I got completely burnt out and moved to Los Angeles for a break — which turned into my home.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Smooth! No way. It’s important to remember that everything looks shiny from the outside. I’ve learned a lot in a short time about myself, other people, emotional honesty, and money transactions in the business world are way more beneficial than energetic transactions. Nothing is for free (for real), and nothing will kill your ego quicker than starting a business. That sounds really negative, but I mean it in a good way. The tiny rewards and freedom make it worth it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have an experiential fragrance brand called HLCYN Hotel (@hlcynhotel) based on a nostalgic hotel I created in my imagination. I’ve had a dream of building a hotel forever and didn’t have the resources needed actually to build one, so I built a brand around the idea to start hosting mini pop up hotel experiences along the way. I love the candles because each one comes with its own “getaway experience,” including a Spotify playlist catered to each one.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Trust the process, fail harder, don’t quit before the miracle happens, repeat. Be grateful and kind not only to others but to yourself, too.
