Today we’d like to introduce you to Julio Almaguer
Hi Julio, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Born and raised in Los Angeles, I’ve always had a hustler mentality. From working my first job at 13 cleaning the city up just to help my mom pay bills, to selling clothes in the downtown alleys, and now as an entrepreneur working on giving my community a voice!
By that I mean I started a “Mobile Podcast Recording”, where I record podcast of different community members all across the Los Angeles Area.
I started a podcast for a company where the adults who had special needs could express themselves and interview members of thier own community. When the director found out I had expanded and taken on customers outside of work, she was quick to fire me.
I did NOT let that hinder my vision, and with my last check I doubled down and bought my own equipment, and paid for the LLC.
I will continue to serve my community by giving everyone a voice with “Mobile Podcast Recording”
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been easy at all. Everything from speaking to banks and paying for equipment out of pocket. I would equate it to not knowing your way around a gym, and how overwhelming that feeling could be. I still don’t know a lot of things and I’m learning as I go, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Some of the hardest struggles has usually revolved around finances and not having enough money for certain things that would make a process easier.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Being an entrepreneur has opened up lots of doors for me. One of them being working in production for music videos, commercials, photo shoots, and short films. I’ve worked on lots of recent Kpop Music Videos, as well as commercials for companies like Nike, and Vans. My favorite shoot was the 1st shoot because it was right after I started my company and I kept thinking to myself, “If I had never gotten fired, I would’ve never gotten to where I truly belong”
I take on each day with the biggest smile, and everyone knows when I show up. I mean business, and I love working for the things I love.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see me and my industry taking advantage of big companies leaving the city. It’s unfortunate that the city high risers sometimes remain empty, but it only leaves room for people who want to make it here in Los Angeles! I see trends continuing to show that giving people a voice and a platform will only help us come together.
