Daily Inspiration: Meet Joshwayy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshwayy.

Joshwayy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in the Washington D.C./Maryland area (DMV) and from there have lived in multiple locations (Florida, NC, Kentucky) but now have taken root in California. The diverse areas I have lived has allowed me to connect with people from all types of backgrounds and walks of life. Since 2013, I have committed myself to developing into a great all-around entertainer to bring life and joy to people’s lives! Life is full of so many things that can bring us down, forget about the good, and distract us from the world’s beauty. So, I am here to remind us of the amazing times that we have had, memories we can still create, and that it’s okay to laugh through the tough times.

That is why I began my journey to be a Host & DJ that will transform your day, your week, and your year as you have a time of your life. Fall of 2013 I was rewatching the livestreams of TomorrowLand, the largest and best festival in the world. I was watching Hardwell’s set, and I was just in awe of how one guy on a stage was entertaining people from all over the world who have different backgrounds, perspectives, languages, and lives. In those moments all of the differences didn’t matter, it was all about unity and the music. That moment was where I decided, “I want to do that”. Music has the power to bring joy, create memories, bring back great memories, create love, and give you an escape from the worries around you. I saw that, understood that, and decided this is where my DJ journey begins.

Then in the Host entertainment world, I have starred in commercials, Netflix, National TV, Disney+, live interviewing, and creating my own Original Podcast named DRIVE (on streaming platforms).

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
After I started my journey I became pretty successful pretty quickly and my name was growing in the area of Florida I was living in. I was able to go beyond just Hosting & DJing my college’s events and I am now traveling all over Florida for events. A couple of years later, I took the risk with my wife to move across the country to California.

We had no family here, and I had no professional connections here, but I knew I needed to relocate here for this season of life. I would be lying to say I was nervous about “restarting” with no clients, no connections, and no one that would help me get going. However I did not hesitate for a moment, I immediately made phone calls to agencies for representation, set up meetings with venue owners, and even walked around our city speaking to business owners personally about my business and how we could work together. Soon enough I was back to having gigs every single weekend, two venue residencies, was working with the NCAA as an arena Host and DJ, and was making 12-hour round trips to Los Angeles for auditions and filming.

When you want something, you have to go all in 100% no matter how it may seem or how you may fear it. This is your life, and you have to trust yourself and what you have inside of you to make your life happen and not let life happen to you. You have what it takes, and you must believe it and go for it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Joshwayy has created his business Joshwayy Productions, where he DJs & Hosts. He has Hosted & DJ’d all across the country and internationally in such places as Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, and Colombia! And has worked with large brands such as LOUIS VUITTON, M&Ms, VIZIO, NCAA, NBC, and Ultra, to name a few!

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
When it comes to just starting out, some great advice I can give is what I mentioned earlier; GIVE 100%! Yes, it can be a “huge decision” to go on your new journey, but trust me the older you will thank you because you won’t have to live the regrets and an older life full of “what ifs”. That was one of my biggest driving forces starting off, not wanting to be towards the end of your life full of regrets and what ifs all because I didn’t follow the dreams of my heart.

Another big driving force can be “who’s watching you”. In life, you never know whose life you’ll be impacting for the better, from just seeing you go for it! You can spark that fire again in someone else to do the same and their life will be forever changed because you stepped out and believed first! That is an amazing thing to think about, huh? Then of course the direct impact you will have once you launch your business, open your clinic, and create generational wealth all because you went for it. I can confidently say that I have positively impacted so many people’s lives because of what I do and my decision to even start my journey, and that is the best part about it.

Oftentimes, the cliche things we hear about hard work are true. Hard work does pay off; face your obstacles head-on, don’t quit, and do it afraid until you’re no longer scared! If no one has said it already, I will, I BELIEVE IN YOU. Now go start your journey; I’m here for you and rooting you on.
