Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Coachman
Hi Jeremy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started taking dance classes when I was 11 years old, and it stemmed frrom an infatuation with dance shoes. My neighborhood friend was taking tap and ballet classes and I thought his shoes were the coolest thing since sliced bread. in order to get the shoes, my mom said, I had to actually use them. so I was enrolled in classes at the local dance studio.
From my first day at the studio I knew I found something I loved. In my first day I took every class available. From then on, I made it a priority. I switched to an arts middle and high school so I could dance more, as well as continuing to take classes outside of school. For college I went to Juilliard in NYC and from there moved straight Montreal to join Ballets Jazz de Montreal for 7 years, In 2022 i moved to LA and started dancing for LADP, as well as signing with Bloc Agency and getting into doing commercial work. I feel like there’s still so much to learn about this craft and still feel like I’m just scratching the surface.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
things are never a smooth road. but the road it no less rewarding to travel down. throughout all the roadblocks there has always been something to take away from the experience. Funding my dance passions as a young boy was hard for my family as I’m a triplet and there were 3 children to tend to. But from that, we got creative and did fundraisers and made donation jugs with my picture and story on them. We’d place them at businesses around the city.
Dealing the perceptions of others of me aspiring to be a dancer, (a ballet dancer specifically at the time) was sometimes difficult. But it made me very clear on my decision of wanting to proceed with it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
So I’m a professional dance artist that specializes in contemporary dance forms. But others who know me may tell you that I’m very well rounded and am well versed in most codified dance styles. in the dance world I am known for my specificity and musicality, and I work in both the commercial dance world and the concert dance world, two aspects of the profession that is usually separated.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Just send me a message!! I welcome all inquires. People can reach out to me either through my Instagram @j.s.coachman or send me an email at [email protected].
