Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeddy Knox.
Hi Jeddy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I wasn’t a singer-songwriter until 2.5 years ago. I never grew up singing and hadn’t played an instrument since high school. But during a divorce that shattered my sense of self, I fell into songwriting. It’s how I coped and the only thing that made me feel good while crawling out of deep depression. I surrendered to an intense creative energy I’d been suppressing my whole life in favor of traditional careers in technology and consulting. It was a rock-bottom reckoning, but also a chance to make something real. So I quit my job, moved to Los Angeles, and began working with talented musicians and co-producers. After just over a year, I released my first album, Revelers & Ramblers, and started touring around California and Virginia. I’m an Americana dreamer chasing redemption through song, and I’m just getting started.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I started from absolute zero when I moved to LA in July 2024. No songs recorded. Couldn’t play a lick of guitar. I was raw as a singer and didn’t know a single person in the music industry. There were plenty of moments questioning if I’d made the right call. But I kept showing up and working at it. One step at a time, finding collaborators, developing my sound. It’s all coming together.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I make my own kind of Americana music. When I have something to say or I find a melody that I think is nice to hear, I write a song. One thing that I feel is different about me is I often can hear the entire song in my head and then unwind it with musicians to isolate and record the individual parts.
Another thing that sets me apart is my songwriting. It’s real and it’s raw and I do it all so that we can both feel something from it. I am not making music just to pass the time for a bored America. I combine influences across all genres and any song can take any form. Because I let the song’s creative energy direct the sound and the lyrics, I can make any kind of music. And I can’t wait to create with other musicians and producers who I share this creative energy with. Find a quiet space and listen to my song “Wander On”. Once you’re finished, turn up the volume and rock out to “She’s Gone”. That will show you some of what I am proud of, so far.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’ve caught some breaks. But I also moved across the country with no safety net, learned to play from scratch, and put everything into this. The breaks mattered, but they wouldn’t have meant anything without the work behind them.
