Daily Inspiration: Meet The Igbo Goddess

Today we’d like to introduce you to The Igbo Goddess.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Born to Nigerian immigrants of Igbo descent, I started off singing Barney and Teletubbies toons when I was a very young child. The earliest I remember comprising a song was at 7 years old. There was no day that I would go without singing or being immersed in music in some way shape or form.

As cliché as it may sound, I went through a tough childhood in which there were moments where I would feel unwanted, unloved, neglected, attacked, belittled, worthless and depressed. Growing up with a struggling single mother and absentee/but also abusive father, life was difficult. Growing up as an overweight child of African immigrants in a predominantly Mexican/Asian neighborhood and community, I wasn’t always accepted. (Experienced bullying to say the very least)

It was through music- it was through singing, it was through writing lyrics of encouragement, and of self-reassurance, of beauty, power and strength that resides in me as a person that enabled me to transcend beyond the pain and tough experiences which motivated me to also inspire/encourage others.

It is music that nourishes my entire being and allows me to help heal, elevate, and uplift myself and the people on this planet who have once felt the way I have felt before as a young neglected child…Who as adults(or no matter what age group they’re in) are still struggling and managing to cope. The ones who feel like they are holding on by a thread or are uncertain of their life and why they’re still here. I’m here for them. I make music for the genuine souls in need.

I’ve started putting myself more out there these days by attending live performances in which I perform my original songs of healing and empowering energy. I attend events in which I network with people and experience the magnificence of other fellow artists. I have a YouTube channel, a music video out. My music is on all streaming platforms. I have so far to go but I am proud of what I have already accomplished and look forward to growing and elevating on this musical journey.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not always been a smooth road in fact it has never been lol. I remember the first time I finally decided to go to a studio to record my songs professionally(as I had previously been recording on my laptop in the comfort of my space but always received criticism, “Your music is good. You’re talented with a beautiful voice but the quality/production is really bad”). Understanding the truth and wishing to improve, I set out to do so, only to be seemingly sabotaged by certain producers and not taken seriously for my craft. To be more detailed about this, producers would butcher the mix and master after I trusted them and paid large amounts of money to do a decent job. I would often become sad and discouraged but it didn’t stop me. After about four years, I’m still in the process of finding a good producer that takes me and my art seriously and cares enough to provide exceptional results.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an Artist who taps into various genres but is considered predominantly soulful/r&b, hip hop (a combo of the modern era with old school inspiration), and afrobeat.

I am most proud of the fact that deep down, I’ve always held on to who I truly am by not giving up despite all the trials and tribulations I have experienced. And despite moments, I was told I wasn’t good enough or worthy of being successful and fulfilling my dreams. I’m still here doing my best and inspiring others to do so, and that’s such a beautiful thing.

What sets me apart from others is the fact that I uphold the truth, walk with dignity, righteousness and integrity. I do my best to inspire others to look beyond their physical existence/attributes and look within to realize as humans we are divine vessels who should carry ourselves with honor and self-respect. Who should love one another, be genuine and helpful. We are more than our physical aspects. Whether you believe in God or not, we have a divine light/essence that resides in each one of us which gives us the ability to attain peace, joy, and prosperity in this world.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
That were not going to be here forever so do our best to not take anything for granted. Do our best to live the lives we desire/deserve because we never know when it is our time to go. And be more of a helping hand to people suffering because what goes around comes around.
