Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamir Smith.
Hi Jamir, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story is quite unique on how I started in the fashion industry. I began working at Tyler Perry Studios as a wardrobe designer and assisting with costumes. I fell in love with the runway fashion images from GQ, Vogue, Vibe Magazine and more. So I started working in luxury retail and ended up coaching and training teams on how to build their client books, curate elevated experiences and plan future business.
In the midst of it all, I realized how I wanted to create a space for creatives like me and built, The JamirSmithShow, a curated platform for creative artists to tell their stories.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road as a fashion stylist to podcast host has been a very enjoyable one. I have had the opportunity to live in NYC, Washington DC, Atlanta, and now Los Angeles, all while building strong relationships and providing a platform for people to tell their stories.
I attend numerous red carpet events, luxury art gallery openings and a variety of film festivals. Being apart of these events has allowed me to be in the right spaces with other people with the same stories, which deserve to be told.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In the hem of falling in love with fashion and design, I realized I did not see a lot of people that looked like me in the industry. So I created The JamirSmithShow, which is a curated platform that consists of a podcast, elevated art gallery experiences, fashion/styling tips and my personal book club reading list.
I am extremely proud of the relationships that I have built over the years and how I am providing a platform for creatives.
What continues to set me apart is how I will consistently curate spaces for people that may not have a big social media following however, they have a story that would connect with people. I want to continue to reach new levels to provide a platform for creatives too leave a legacy for future generations.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I am always using all social media platforms and attending curated events such as Black on The Block, Black in The Valley, and more which showcase talented artists. These are the stories I enjoy telling of the underdog whose creative vision aligns with so many people in the world.
