Today we’d like to introduce you to Isabella Morillo
Hi Isabella, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
From the moment I could hold a crayon at three years old, I knew I was destined to be an artist. My early drawings of unicorns and mermaids sparked a lifelong creativity that I could never shake. While I excelled academically, nothing captivated me quite like history and the art that narrates it. Though I faced dry spells in my artistic practice over the years, moving to Los Angeles reignited my passion. Now, as I prepare for my first solo show this November, I feel like a lifetime of ideas is finally materializing from the dreamlike state I’ve inhabited since childhood.
I am painting the visions I’ve always wanted to see in the world, creating from my soul. I proudly call myself my own favorite artist because I make what I desire and share my innermost feelings through visual expression. My professional journey began in 2019 when I live-painted at a friend’s show, catching the eye of a curator who invited me to showcase my work at my favorite gallery. This opportunity opened the door to a mural at a festival and the creation of my own art studio, aligning perfectly with my aspirations.
This journey has given me the confidence that if I could make an impact in Salt Lake City, I could certainly do the same in LA. I’ve always chosen the road less traveled, embracing the fear that accompanies it because that’s what fuels my spirit. Moving to LA was a necessary step for my growth as both an artist and a person, allowing me to reconnect with myself.
While sharing my art has been daunting, I’ve slowly learned to overcome that fear. For the past few years, I delved into muralism, but I feel canvas work is where I truly belong. Creating on canvas allows my ideas to flow effortlessly, even when the process isn’t always perfect. My art has moved people to tears and inspired them, which has always been my goal: to share my light wherever I go.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The struggles along my artistic journey have been endless, and I’ve come to realize that challenges are a part of life that we’ll never escape. One of the biggest hurdles for me has been transitioning from merely surviving to truly thriving. Being in a city like Los Angeles is tough; it demands unwavering focus and a clear vision. If you lose sight of your goals, it’s all too easy to get lost in the chaos, and before you know it, a decade has passed without you achieving what you set out to do.
The pursuit of my goals is what keeps me anchored here. I’ve accomplished a lot, and I’m grateful for every opportunity, but I know I’m not where I want to be yet. It’s not a sin to want more; it’s a reflection of my drive and passion. I’ve never understood those who don’t know what they want, as my desire for my art has been a guiding force. I’ll do what it takes to fuel that passion, even if it means working 48-hour shifts on set. That energy propels me forward and reminds me why I’m here. Another day in paradise.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a painter at heart, but I love experimenting with sculpting and different mediums—truly passionate about just creating. This November 2nd, I’ll be hosting a series of exciting events throughout the month in conjunction with my major show. Be sure to DM me if you want to stay in the loop or collaborate! Also, subscribe to my IG broadcast channel for exclusive bts content. While I currently focus on painting, my dream is to one day design buildings, cars, and even entire worlds, sharing my vision of a solar punk future. Through my art, I aim to create a portal to that vision because I believe artists are the visionaries shaping tomorrow. By focusing on each project today, I’m opening the doors to even greater works.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me? That’s a deep question, but I know it comes down to a few key things.
Artistic Expression: I’m a painter at heart, and art is my life. It’s not just a career; it’s shaped who I am. Creating allows me to share my vision and connect with others on a deeper level. It’s where I find joy and purpose.
Growth and Evolution: I’ve been on a journey from surviving to thriving, and that growth is everything to me. Every challenge I’ve faced has fueled my desire to keep pushing forward, both as an artist and a person. I know I’m capable of more, and that drives me to make my dreams reality.
Community and Connection: Inspiring others and moving them with my art is a huge part of why I create. I want my work to resonate with people, creating shared experiences that spark emotions and connections.
Vision for the Future: I’m passionate about the idea of a solar punk future. I want to use my art to imagine and help create a better world, one that’s sustainable and filled with creativity. I believe in the power of art to shape what’s possible.
Authenticity and Self-Discovery: Embracing my full self and showing my art has been a journey. It’s about expressing my true identity and not being afraid to share it. That authenticity helps me connect deeper with my work and the world around me.
Independence and Empowerment: I value my independence and the freedom to carve my own path. It’s empowering to pursue my art on my terms, and that fuels my passion every day.
These are the things that truly matter to me and shape my journey as an artist.
