Daily Inspiration: Meet Hellene Alabi Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hellene Alabi Williams

Hi Hellene, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started crocheting at 5 back in my home country Nigeria. I used to unravel old sweaters to get my yarn, it was my go to fun/ therapy rolled in one. Last year 2023, I was trying to find personable gifts for my family members and I wanted something I added sweat equity to not just the priciest gift and I decided to crotchet purses for the women in my family, that was the beginning of my luxury purse company, Jhime by Hellene

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been smooth of course! While my family members loved their gifts and raved about it, I struggled with turning a long time hobby to a business and just wrestling with the discipline to meet deadlines and scale my business. Time management and bulk deliveries has being a challenge but I feel I’m finally getting a rhythm that works for me

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I just launched my fashion company Jhime by Hellene, I started with luxury crotchet purses to grow and add more as I grow; apparels, etc. Aside from starting that line of work I am an independent Film maker, my husband, Antonio Williams and I currently have a Television drama series African Twist Season one streaming on Tubi. .I believe with Jhime by Hellene, my purse stands out not only because of the unique designs but the time dedication and years of honing my craft. As a film maker and a female immigrant and a Christian, our stories are unique in the sense that they entertain, educate and teach real life situations and practical biblical ways of handing life’s challenges

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
For me as an avid reader, listening to my favorite sermons and/ or watching videos of people I aspire to be like has worked tremendously. As to having a physical mentor, aside from my pastors, I’m yet to find one. My advice is use what’s available to you. We live in a digital world, make use of the tools at your disposal and keep going
