Today we’d like to introduce you to Helle Urban.
Hi Helle, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have loved drawing from the age of five years old. Drawing was my joy, I was terribly shy at a young age moving from Denmark at an early age. I was an art major in high school. Graduated from Art Center College of Design, majoring in Illustration. I have worked in the animation industry as a background artist and managed several fine art galleries over the years. Currently, I illustrate children’s books and enjoy painting in oils. My subjects vary from people animals to landscapes. I’m currently trying to master painting in Plein Air. I love the outdoors and enjoy nature.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Bring an artist is always challenging. I always strive to be better. My goal is to someday be recognized as a signature artist and have my work in a couple of fine art galleries.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in portrait painting, I’ve always enjoyed painting people and pets. My goal is to perfect my Plein Air painting techniques and also studio oil paintings for shows and exhibits. I recently won a Best Of Show at a juried art show in Newport Beach this summer. I’m always so proud when I can be recognized and appreciated for my artwork. I feel what sets me apart from other artists perhaps is my ability to paint any subject. My style of art has always been realistic but my goal is to have a more impressionistic look.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love California! It’s such a beautiful state. I love living in Agoura Hills. I am close driving distance to many locations such as Laguna Beach to Ojai to Idyllwild. All places I love to Plein Air paint at. Love Southern California weather! Dislikes would be obviously the traffic, but you just learn to deal with it.
