Today we’d like to introduce you to Gursimran Singh.
Hi Gursimran, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I hail from a small town in Punjab, India, wherein Filmmaking is a foreign concept to all. In fact, it was a foreign concept to me as well! I’ve been an avid film goer but I’ve never thought about the behind-the-scenes of the same. If it wasn’t for photography, I would’ve never made myself familiar to a camera and hence began my journey to understanding images which then furthered my interest in moving images. With the curiosity to learn more, I found myself at New York Film Academy in Los Angeles, CA. I chose to explore all avenues of filmmaking here and felt at home when I was either Producing or Directing on set.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve already discussed how I got here professionally so I’ll tackle the other half of this question. Like always, navigating the industry at first was tough. I’ve spent time thoroughly learning and applying the technical knowledge. It wasn’t easy until I practiced it so much that now it feels like breathing. My biggest challenge was on one of my biggest sets as a Producer- ‘Lover.’ However, it was such a great experience that I’m glad for all the work my team and I have put into it. The result and the reach of the song has truly been great!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
It began with one short film after the other and when Covid hit the market for music videos started to pick up. I steered myself towards that and before I knew it, I was Producing for Diljit Dosanjh’s album ‘Moon child Era.’ Like always, navigating the industry at first was tough. I am really glad to work with ” ACURA ” and ” Warner Bros Music, Canada ” as well.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I’ve always been grateful for the support that my parents have given me and I’m thankful to this date for their blessings. However, the one point in my life which helped me steer in this direction was when I first reached out to Rahul Dutta. He gave me the opportunity to shadow him on set wherein I picked up practical knowledge about the workings of a set and fell in love with the process of filmmaking. Apart from him, I would like to thank my friends who have helped me and believed in my work since my university days. Friendships like this go a long way and I hope on keeping these connections as we all climb the ladder together.
