Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriel Beeler

Hi Gabriel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My photography journey started at Target of all places; my first camera was Canon T2 rebel. Getting a camera was the easy part but learning to use it creatively and technically is a whole different story. I knew nothing about photography or light or how to use a camera. I would go to the park with some friends and would practice portraits, posing and getting the light correct.
After that initial practice, I started to do Hollywood Events, and learned how to use a flash and some more basic techniques.

Using my basic photography knowledge, I atteptmed to create a photo booth at an event, using a basic studio setup. Little did I know, this event would change my life for the next decade plus.
In the beginning, photo booths were large and clunky with limited options available. Over the years, setups became more portable, lighter and started adding more advanced features. Keeping up with the newest technology and hardware has been one of the biggest challenges, since there are always new setups and options available. I always like to test out new photo and video experiences first before going live at an event.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to serve a lot of big events, but the path to success wasn’t easy. One of the largest obstacles in the beginning was marketing. I had a hard time breaking into the industry since it was already crowded with well-established event experts. Getting customers to trust my brand was difficult, even after I learned the latest software and made an investment in top-notch equipment. Finding a successful marketing plan took years, and learning how to promote a tiny firm in a highly competitive industry was no easy task.

Financial difficulties were initially a significant barrier to overcome. I first invested $10,000, but the price of buying top-notch cameras, software, and branding supplies soon mounted up. I typically hosted backyard parties and social events for far less money than I should have because of my low brand reputation. Although charging low costs brought me in front of planners and potential clients, it did not result in a profit. I broke even or made a tiny profit for a number of years, and I even launched a second company to sell secondhand gadgets.

The COVID-19 epidemic struck, bringing the events sector to a complete standstill just as business was booming. Revenue crashed as cancellations flooded in. Instead, I applied for business grants and began marketing to corporate clients and higher-level events, which helped increase income as the world gradually reopened. In order to restore momentum, I increased my marketing efforts and made use of connections with event companies and Google.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
My experience with photo booths has taught me the value of flexibility and client satisfaction. Building a devoted clientele and a solid name in the event industry has been made possible by this customer-centric strategy. I’ve discovered that the secret to running a successful photo booth business is concentrating on customer service and establishing contacts in the event industry.
Over the years I have learned to say no to opportunities that don’t align with my brand, and focusing on doing more challenging events. I learned from the famous YouTube photographer, Fro Knows Photo, to always over deliver to your clients. An invoice and contract are just a baseline of what is expected to be delivered but if you over deliver and exceed expectations, then clients will keep coming back year after year. I have also learned that being flexible and accommodating is a must for event professionals. You don’t always have to stick to your contract 100% of the time, and there will always be last minute changes and acts of God that happen in the events industry.
