Today we’d like to introduce you to Frank Synowicz.
Hi Frank, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a Video Director and VFX/CG Supervisor with over 20 years of experience in film, TV, streaming, music videos, theme park installations, interactive media, and more. I’ve worked with studios like With a Twist, Pixomondo, Picture Shop, and Ghost VFX, leading teams and projects that blend high-end visual effects with strong creative storytelling. I’ve always had an innate drive to create. There’s something deeply fulfilling about taking an idea, shaping it, and bringing it to life. To me, creativity goes beyond art or design, it’s about solving problems, telling stories, and continuously unfolding and expanding the imagination.
I’m especially drawn to blending traditional techniques with emerging technologies and I continue to push boundaries at the forefront of new media. I’m constantly creating and experimenting in a variety of creative mediums, testing new methods and ideas, and just seeing where it takes me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Creating in the fast-paced, ever-evolving world of AI and digital media means constantly adapting. Just when you master one tool or trend, a dozen new ones emerge. That keeps pushing you to stay sharp, experiment quickly, and rethink what’s possible almost daily.
I’m currently working as a Director of AI and Video where I am focused on integrating AI into traditional VFX pipelines in a way that’s intentional and production-ready. My approach is hybrid: blending established CG and VFX methods with emerging AI tools to improve efficiency, unlock new creative options, and rethink how certain stages of production can be streamlined or reimagined. The key is knowing where AI fits in the pipeline without compromising creative intent or technical stability. In this evolving landscape, I see my role more as an orchestrator of tools. It’s about understanding the strengths and limitations of each tool, and directing them toward a unified visual goal. No single tool or platform is the solution, it’s about building a toolkit where AI augments, not completely replaces, the hands-on artistry and problem-solving that VFX demands.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Working under my artist handle SYNOSCOPE, I create multidisciplinary/multimedia work that delves into themes of identity, power, communication, technology, and the spectacle of media. One of my most recognized series, Hail to the Chief, reimagines U.S. presidential portraits through digital distortion and visual subversion. It’s a politically charged body of work that interrogates image, leadership, and cultural memory. My work has been exhibited in solo and group shows across the U.S. and Europe, including venues such as the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art, BWA Katowice in Poland, and Atelier 34zero in Brussels, Belgium. I believe art and visual media hold the power not only to reflect the world, but to question it, to unsettle dominant narratives, and open up new ways of seeing and understanding.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I have a deep love for travel. There’s nothing more enriching than experiencing new places and cultures firsthand. It truly broadens the mind, shifts perspectives, and fuels personal growth. I’ve traveled extensively and plan to continue exploring the world, driven by a lifelong curiosity and a passion for art, culture, science, and history. Each destination offers something unique, and I’m always eager to learn, discover, and be inspired.
