Today we’d like to introduce you to Evelyn Aguilar.
Hi Evelyn, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I just started my own small business Chamoy Drenalynn. I’ve been in the hospitality industry for about a decade. I’ve grown a passion for creating cocktails. I believe drinks shouldn’t just be about getting intoxicated. It’s like creating a dish. Have many different flavor profiles.
I am also a single mother of two. I’m constantly try to teach them about our (Hispanic) culture. I’m a weird way I try to incorporate both things. Chamoy is huge in our community but it is also a lot of processed ingredients. So my chamoy is made without artificial flavors. Chamoy is perfectly paired with a nice cold beer and with fruit as well. However, Chamoy isn’t so popular during the winter since a lot of the ingredients call for summer fruits. So for now, I’m also focusing on my dog treats. Natural Howlin treats! I just adopted a dog Dani, and I want her to eat healthy as well. So I’ll be launching soon.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s been a big struggle. I’m young, but I’m also not very social media active. So it’s a little hard to promote online. Since I come from an industry that you need to socialize in person. It’s been a whole different experience for me. Practice make better.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
To start, I am a bartender not a mixologist. Being in an industry dominated by man, I’m constantly educating myself and learning the history behind my cocktails. As a mother of 2, I want to teach them that anything is possible. Nothing can intimidate you, as long as you have the passion for it. I try to incorporate healthier alternatives in an industry thats usually meant for party and intoxicated. For me, it’s not just about making money it’s about guest satisfaction. The appreciation of the art behind it. Starting a chamoy and dog treat business is so random but I like the challenge.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I hope in the future, I have my bar or doggy cafe that serves alcohol to doggy parents.
